The Savoy Theatre is currently home to Gypsy which stars Imelda Staunton, Lara Pulver and Peter Davison. Don't miss Gypsy, one of the greatest ever Broadway musicals, as it transfers to the West End following its sell-out, rapturously acclaimed five-star run at Chichester Festival Theatre. Imelda Staunton delivers a 'knock-out performance' (The Independent) as Momma Rose in Jonathan Kent's 'dazzling revival' (Mail on Sunday), alongside Lara Pulver, who reprises her 'stunning' (The Independent) role as Louise. They'll be joined by Peter Davison as Herb, in this gloriously entertaining musical fable that features 'showstopping' (Mail on Sunday) choreography from Stephen Mear. Based on the true life memoirs of legendary burlesque entertainer, Gypsy Rose Lee, it tells the tale of Momma Rose and her two daughters, Baby June and Louise, trekking across America in their family vaudeville act. But times are changing, audiences are expecting more, and the two girls have their own ambitions in mind. The rise of burlesque is upon them, and nothing will ever be the same again for Momma Rose. With lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, book by Arthur Laurents and music by Jule Styne, this moving and 'scintillating' (The Times) production of Gypsy is the first to be seen in London for 40 years.

I would recommend this show, brilliant from start to finish. Excellent cast and lead vocalist Effie amazing, she received 3 standing ovations from the audience. Worthwhile paying for a seat in the stalls , we had end seats seven rows from the front, got great views and thoroughly enjoyed it.

First an admission, I accept that some love this show and that I (50+ year old male) am probably not that target audience. However both my wife and I felt that the story (girl band seeking success) was routine , the songs in the main were acceptable, and Amber Riley's show stoppers were amazing. But it was very "shouty" and... More

She was almost too good as Effie White - the rest of the cast paled in comparison. So glad I got to see her in this role before she leaves the show. The theatre is lovely and the show is energetic and excellent in its staging.

We went to see the matinee performance and were very excited to see the much heard of show. Being a great fan of the film my expectations were quite high, but I have to say the cast were brilliant and thoroughly bought the story to life. Singing was spine tingling and 'Effie' was by far the star of the show,... More

Booked the Royal box for Saturday May 6th matinee both for myself & 16 year old daughter. Due to unforeseen circumstances we were asked if an upgrade to centre front row, dress circle would be acceptable. Indeed it was & in addition we were presented with complimentary programmes & free drinks for the interval. What outstanding service from all management... More

This show is spectacular. A fictional show first portrayed by Jennifer Holliday in 1981, it certainly has aged well. My wife and I were impressed by he strength and depth of talent within the cast. The music was fantastic throughout. The Savoy hosted us with the utmost of care. We can only highly recommend a VIP package if you get... More

Decided to go to the matinee and could not have wished for a better performance. The whole cast were amazing and the main characters were truly wonderful. Seats were in the gods and bit restricted but even that did not defer from the great performance. Well done Dreamgirls

Amber Riley & cast great but the story line a little weak. The play is sung like Les Miserables. A little disappointed to be honest.

Staying in Trafalgar Square / Embankment

Neighbourhood Profile
Trafalgar Square / Embankment
With its iconic Nelson’s Column, majestic oversized lions and brightly-lit fountains, Trafalgar Square is not just considered the heart of this bustling London hub, but the very core of the city itself. Beyond this esteemed gathering place are more famous icons, as well as a disproportionate numbers of the city’s most popular cultural attractions including the National Gallery and many West End theaters. Along the way to these major sites are quiet lanes and antiquated pubs to discover, as well as riverside vistas to enjoy on the embankment. With a calendar full of celebratory events, any time of year is a fine time to visit.
