Top ways to experience Thames River
The area
Neighbourhood: Southbank
Big time attractions such as the London Eye and a thriving theatre scene (compliments of the National Theatre and the Young Vic) are but a few of the reasons that Southbank is such a collectively cherished part of town. With plenty of family friendly activities and venues lined up along a pedestrianized river bank between Westminster Bridge and Waterloo Bridge, visitors can always expect a casual and festive atmosphere. On top of all the fun stuff to do at Southbank is the opportunity to simply sit back and admire photo-op views of iconic landmarks like Parliament and St Paul's Cathedral, just on across the Thames.
How to get there
  • Waterloo • 5 min walk
  • Embankment • 6 min walk

Would not recommend .my first time having this experience , I was shown to table and that was it. No conversation from staff it was like a conveyor belt had to ask to be served a drink after everyone else had been served and were getting there food, then food put in front of me which was awful I asked for a plain chicken it was like rubber only taste was the herbs my husband is a retired chef and he ate some of it but wasnt impressed..wasn't allowed hot drink until dessert one cup of tea or coffee, the dessert which was not touched by myself as it wasn't something I ate but was told no other alternative.
Then paid for our drinks by cash at the end didn't get change back £3.15 then they expect you to give a tip when you leaving they all stand by the door going o thank you hope you enjoyed yourselves enjoy rest of your day thankyou...
Looked at other lunch cruises online later that night found exactly the same menu so it's mass produced of site and then kept warm before service..

This really bad smelling water means that walk along the river is bad for your health. I suggest no one to be anywhere close to this polluted river.

There's lots to see along the Thames--at least the section that winds around/near Big Ben, the London Eye, etc.--and you can get good vantage points on the river itself (via a cruise), while strolling alongside it, and/or from the London Eye.

While on a river cruise, we learned a fair bit about a number of the waterfront buildings, so if you'd like to learn a thing or two, and have an enjoyable ride down the river (from the London Eye to the Tower Bridge), I recommend a river cruise.

A very lively area, wear a comfy shoes to walk around. Marine life is slowly coming back to the river water and if you are lucky you may see something. FREE

So much to see along the river path whichever stretch you decide to walk. We saw the Thames at high and low tide. In fact during high tide some roads along the river bank can be completely flooded. Beautiful blossoms enroute especially wisteria.

Bill our Thames Rocket host and guide was fantastic. Highly entertaining, knowledgeable about London and ensured we were all safe. This was the most memorable birthdays present I have ever had. The boat went so much faster than I could have imagined. Mike is a superb driver. We felt like we were in a bond film. He definitely got the most out of a speed boat full of passengers. You are so much closer to the water than in a cruiser. Bill does give a very good tour from Tower Bridge back to the London Eye. I wasn’t expecting that we’d have a tour as well.

The Thames is an essential part of any visit to London. So many sights lie close to the river and there are good paths for walking and taking in the views. There is a huge amount to see just in central London between Westminster Bridge and Tower Bridge, but it's also worth venturing further to Greenwich or Richmond which have a different character. Even further out there are the towns of Windsor and Henley to explore.

It’s a great route to walk along watching everything going on on the river, plenty to see and do. Worth a little stroll if you’re in the area.
