Used our Oyster cards on the river boats to get from the Tate Modern to the Tate Britain. Then back to our hotel near Tower Bridge. It's a great way to get around without going underground!

We went on a boat cruise down the Thames river in the evening. It was beautiful to see the iconic buildings lit up and with a clear evening sky behind them. London bridge was certainly a beautiful view. Great way to see these iconic architecture.

Be sure to make time to stroll the river walk, particularly on the east side between the Tower of London and the Globe Theatre. A bit of a walk, but utterly delightful with all sorts of people and musicians performing and delightful places to eat. A must do immersion experience of London!

I used to walk on the Westminster Bridge often while my husband was on admission at Guys and St Thomas Hospital and the views of the river from the bridge was always spectacular. There is always a huge gathering of tourists taking pictures of the river on weekends. So if you dont like crowds, avoid the bridge on weekends.

There is no London without the River Thames. What struck me is that, unlike the River Liffey in Dublin, it is always very clear and there are no beggars and pickpocketers there. Overall, I recommend a visit there, because it is one of the city's symbols.

I love the Thames, it really is the main artery of London as it meanders through the city that's grown on its banks. There's loads of history to the river and everything it passes. We did a river cruise from Westminster to Greenwich and it's the best way to travel because you get to see all the amazing buildings -... More

The Thames is impossible to avoid and maybe you shouldn't. It's full of boats and bridges and tourists and oddly enough, eels.

Do not miss a chance for a boat ride! One sees many things that are much better viewed from this River than from land! Photography is easy and other tourists are always quite friendly and courteous! It is one of the better highlights of London and should not be missed under any circumstances!

Staying in Southbank

Neighbourhood Profile
Big time attractions such as the London Eye and a thriving theatre scene (compliments of the National Theatre and the Young Vic) are but a few of the reasons that Southbank is such a collectively cherished part of town. With plenty of family friendly activities and venues lined up along a pedestrianized river bank between Westminster Bridge and Waterloo Bridge, visitors can always expect a casual and festive atmosphere. On top of all the fun stuff to do at Southbank is the opportunity to simply sit back and admire photo-op views of iconic landmarks like Parliament and St Paul's Cathedral, just on across the Thames.
