Well worth looking at what they've got on - they are happy for non-buyers to go in and look. They even let us into their current display before it officially opened because we could only go on the day before. Prices don't look extortionate if you do want to buy.

Established in 1876 by a consortium of young men including William Longman, Marcus Bone Huish and Archibald Stuart-Wortley MP, the Fine Art Society pioneered exhibitions by single artists starting with Whistler's Venice etchings, then portraits by Millais and John Singer-Sargent. Still going strong today in its original Bond Street location it sticks closely to its original brief focussing on British art of the 19th and 20th centuries. In October 2011 it opened all five floors for an exhibition of works inspired by Marcel Duchamp featuring Sir Peter Blake, Gavin Turk and Michael Craig-Martin. It currently houses no fewer than five exhibitions ranging from Modern British Prints (Auerbach, Paul Nash, Graham Sutherland, Edward Bawden), Modern British Paintings (Ivon Hitchens, Spencer Gore, Walter Sickert), Gordon Reece's collection of Asian and African artefacts.

I have not been in this gallery for many years. It has some fabulous exhibits, a quite eclectic mix, based in a period house on 4 floors. For me the main exhibition on the ground and first floor was not of much interest however at present the upper floors are open and there are some beautiful items to see including pictures, glassware, furniture, ceramics. I loved the natural history paintings by Raymond Booth. It is a lovely space to explore.
