Good jazz, but management do not seem to understand the goodwill element. Booking necessitated paying the dreaded booking fee, and agreeing to three pages of conditions. Entry will require a 17-digit alphanumeric code, name, postcode, signature and photographic ID. Gig advertised at 8pm, but on...More

Visited The Vortex to see some live jazz, the venue was small and everything a person could want from a jazz club. The jazz (though not to my taste) was well produced with the perfect volume for the acoustics available in the first floor club....More

So let me set the scene - the Vortex is a London jazz institution. Formed in Stoke Newington about 30 years ago it relocated to this slightly insalubrious square in Dalston about 10 years ago. The venue is atmospheric, although very cramped and functional. The...More

This small venue in hipster Dalston is an authentic newish Old Skool Jazz venue, Its quite compact which means even at a sellout gig you are still close to the stage and the acoustics are great, as it should be for jazz, you can really...More

On entering we were told where are table was by friendly member staff. Fortunately we would have had so share our table with two random people but they did not turn up. They had a decent selection of drinks, at a reasonable price. The music...More

Robust jazz club with original jazz attitude. A good local jazz band was performing the night I visited the club and the audience was there to listen the music, not to visit a must to see club. Highly recommedated.
