Lovely to see this building presented in all its former glory. Pity that previous city planners were so naive and allowed the change of use, and then let a massive dept store be built behind it. Awful planning!

One of the places always fancied a visit so after the refurb we paid a visit, £7.50 in (as usual a bit over priced but its York) not that many rooms to view maybe 6 but pleasant staff who brought them to life, an enjoyable...More

Visited out of season during York Residents weekend. It’s brilliant that the house has been rescued from its previous use as a cinema and dance hall to reveal all its Georgian splendour. Great room hosts who help to bring to life how the Fairfax family...More

There are very few rooms on show here and, like all of York, is overpriced. However, some very good room staff are mines of information and bring the place to life. Well worth a visit.

We have been to Fairfax House before but this was set up for Georgian Christmas, with very different ways of celebrating / eating. Very helpful and knowledgeable volunteers and really well set our rooms. Great time had on this repeat visit. Very well done.

We decided to see Fairfax House as it was very snowy and wet outside. The young woman at the desk was helpful and friendly and the room guides knowledgeable and enthusiastic. My questions were all answered well and I was given a real feeling for...More

We visited this house just a few days ago for the second time and I had forgotten just how lovely it is. Entry isn't cheap but the house is stunningly beautiful with some gorgeous rooms, art and furniture. The guides are all very knowledgeable and...More
