The Mansion House is currently completely empty, giving a rare, free insight into the bare bones of the building. No furniture, light fittings, carpets, no nothing. Access is more or less unrestricted. This was the first time I'd ever set foot inside and it will be fascinating to return when the great house has been put back into a more... More

A real piece of civic history and well worth a tour. Plenty of atmosphere and far from a museum. This is a well used working building and a real asset to the city, prominently situated within the heart of the commercial district.

I rent the dining room for a catered banquet every July for my visiting American undergraduates (cost for the room 190 pounds for two hours). This year was as splendid as ever in the magnificent Georgian architecture and furnishings. The staff were helpful and obliging, permitting a tour of the historic civic exhibits upstairs. The whole experience was lovely. My... More

Our guide was very helpful and gave a lot of information and helpful little anecdotes about the house. Amazing house and great introduction to Yorkshire and its history.

I was provided with a private tour of the mansion house by the current Lord Mayor of York. The state rooms and regalia are quite simply splendid. The Lord Mayor put on her robe and tricorn hat, whilst her attendant explained the history of the City of York mayoral chain, sword and mace. The eighteenth century mansion is kept in... More

The house is magnificent with some very old pieces, and the tour guide is so knowledgeable and funny! If you get a chance to see how heavy the few hundred year old sword is do it!

What a super event! It takes a couple of months to plan but it is worth all the effort. The building is incredible, to have free roam of it for the night is just special. From start to finish they couldn't do enough to help. Can not recommend highly enough.

Closed, but we got a quick tour. Brilliant curved door. Great rooms, plain chains, big dining room and breakfast service. Well worth a visit.

We were planning to visit here on the 10th January 2015 so checked on the website to see when it was open. 'Every Thursday, Friday and Saturday tours are available it says - no need to book. May be cancelled if there is a special event.' Therefore I rang to check and discovered that it was totally closed until the... More
