I walked the City walls in February 2108 as part of my 2 day tour in York. If you like walking and want to get away from all of the tourists that walk around York then is an ideal way to see York from a...More

Get up early, walk the walls! It is fantastic to see the city from a different point of view. It will take you some time to walk it, but it's worth it, but do it early, that way you don't meet too many other people.

Good panoramic views by time complete whole wall. Allow an hour and a half for a gentle stroll around. Great way to see outside of Cathedral (rear/side) and varied architecture/residential areas that surround / follow the inner walls. A healthy afternoon.

We didn't actually mean to walk along them but found that it was the quickest way back. It was amazing to think of what it would of been like while you're stood up there, higher than the houses. Be careful though as there's no railing...More

Walked along these impressive city walls, which sit upon foundations laid by the Romans. The walls provide a good way to get around the city, while providing a great view at the same time.

Definitely worth downloading one of the wall descriptions before you go so you can appreciate it properly. It was a rainy day so needed to take extra precautions. Loved it.

Had a very pleasant Sunday walk first thing in the morning. Beware this isn't open if the weather is bad or icey etc as we tried the day before.

They can be accessed most times of the day, during daylight hours. However, the gates through which the walls pass are locked and so preventing access. The walls are not continuous and in parts are open on one side so not... More

We never got the feeling like we could fall. There are high walls or fences and solid footing. If it's just being high, I think 20-30 feet at the most is it.

I am a tourist, and so cannot answer your question but York is a highly organised destination and so would be suprised if a German speaking tour was not available
