We walked the length of the wall. It took a little while but we weren't in a hurry. Good views, Roman history, and a relatively quite place in the midst of bustle.

Complete circuit of the city possible. Great views of back gardens, Minster, Railway station etc. Gates are interesting & some host museums which are worth a visit.

A circumnavigation of York's wall is a must - if you have the time. Most of the city is still encompassed by a medieval wall, at least some of which dates back to Roman times! Join at any of the many access points, roads, bridges...More

Probably not what we were expecting,'twas a cold February morning, roughly a three mile walk quite narrow pathways quite a few steps here and there and interrupted by several A roads and not really a great deal to see.

Only enjoyed walking on the part of the walls near the Minster which overlooked interesting buildings and gardens. The rest of the walls just overlooked normal homes and gardens. A bit boring.

I have walked the city walls on many occasions and think it's a lovely way to appreciate the city. When we have people staying with us, we often take them on a wall walk - it@s a great way to see different, hidden parts of...More

Stunning 3,4km walk along beautifully preserved Roman walls with all four bar (gates) intact into the City the York. These walls are the most complete example of Medieval walls in England. Great views while walking of The River Ouse the city beyond the walls. I...More

Norman by history (folks think they are Roman!), they are a great way to see York and an excellent way of getting around without tripping over cyclists or dodging cars. There are a few museums dotted around in a couple of the bars (Micklegate for...More

They can be accessed most times of the day, during daylight hours. However, the gates through which the walls pass are locked and so preventing access. The walls are not continuous and in parts are open on one side so not... More

We never got the feeling like we could fall. There are high walls or fences and solid footing. If it's just being high, I think 20-30 feet at the most is it.

I am a tourist, and so cannot answer your question but York is a highly organised destination and so would be suprised if a German speaking tour was not available
