This isn't easiest place to get to get to and there are plenty of other sites. We had our day planned and got there about 3.30. SHUT (this on 18th January). This despite indications open till 6pm. Won't bother to try again.

A really good place to look around and find out about Roman Life. The ruins are excellent and the guidance panels are really informative. The museum and coffee shop are down a treacherous path but well worth the walk and full of really interesting finds as well as a whole section on the Vindolanda tablets. Highly recommended.

Stopped in, bought the guide book but did not pay to tour the ruins as was short on time. Mostly foundation stones in at the site, and could have easily spent several hours if had the time.

Was unsure about visiting this, but found it brilliant. Lots to see and well worth the entrance fee. Would definitely recommend it.

We have been to Vindolanda a couple of times before but on this occasion we called in on a weekday. This meant that we could chat with the archaeologists...which was fascinating. Rather than feeling that we were interrupting they went out of their way to come over and ask if we had any questions or wanted further explanations on any... More

You will feel like the history there, great place, interesting for any Roman fan. Ruins are ok, it was nice to see, but what makes the place so magic is the whole area around.

Vindolanda gives a real insight into what the Roman frontier was like. As there is a dig every summer, there is always a chance that your visit will coincide with a discovery. The archaeologists will answer questions as well. The museum is good with the various objects well displayed. The interactive displays are now a bit dated but a great... More

3rd or 4th visit in the last few years. Vindolanda is truly incredible, not just the scale of the site itself but also the types of building etc you can see. I especially love the Roman drainage outside the front of the shops etc following the road down the middle, that really is cool to see! The museum is superb!!... More

Vindolanda was our second fort to visit after previously visiting Chesters and it is equally just as beautiful if not more so when you walk down to the museum and gardens. Once again the ruins are laid out in the typical Roman style of how they constructed all their camps within forts and they have been well excavated. What we... More
