Lying in magnificent countryside next to a sweeping section of Hadrian's Wall and based at the site of Carvoran Roman Fort, the Roman Army Museum is an authentic and dramatic tribute to Rome’s extraordinary military legacy. Step into the life of a Roman soldier and experience life on the front line of Emperor Hadrian’s formidable British frontier. Explored through reconstructions, objects excavated along Hadrian's Wall and the Vindolanda Trust’s inspiring interpretations of army life including the exclusive 3D Edge of Empire film, the museum pays unforgettable homage to Rome's military accomplishments in Britain.

We started out our day by going to the nearby Vindolanda site, and this museum is also run by the Vindolanda trust. It is great for anybody to visit, but with its interactive, hands on displays and 3D birds eye view of Vindolanda film, its especially good for older children and teens. But its not just for kiddies, my husband... More

we visited as part of a joint ticket with the Roman Army Museum, and Vindolanda. I would recommend you do both and try to do it Vindolanda on a nice day ( You don’t have to visit both sites on the same day), as the views are really from the carpark of the museum with a great picnic area. We... More

This museum is right near the wall, and provides an excellent source of information on the building of Hadrian's Wall and on life in the Roman army, including some exhibits from Vindolanda. The 3D film "Edge of Empire" gives a magnificent Eagle's Eye view of the Wall, and in my opinion would be worth the price of admission on its... More

For many years when driving from Cumbria to Northumberland we have visited and walked along Hadrian's Wall. On this occasion however we decided to visit the Roman Army Museum and what a massive trove of information it turned out to be, and so well presented. There are several video presentations presented in such a way that it is compelling viewing.... More

We combined this visit with Vindolanda tickets, so we only paid £10 each for the two. It was very informative and had several interactive displays. Also included was a 3D film showing the life of a Roman soldier around Hadrians Wall. There was a small gift shop and cafe. Well worth the visit.

We drove north of the Lake District to see this. It's got a nice film showing Hadrian's Wall and what it meant for the Roman Empire. It is on the site of the Roman Fort. Quite informative.

We bought the joint ticket for the Army museum and Vindolanda for £11.00 each. Excellent museum. Brought the builders and guardians of Hadrians wall to life through a 3D film and exhibits. Interesting film, reconstruction of equipment, have a go shooting a bow and finds from Vinolandia. Little cafe selling hot drinks and sandwiches. A little gift shop with quality... More

We were driving along the old roman road to the north of the A69 Newcastle to Carlisle road and alongside Hadrian's Wall when we came upon this museum by chance. We needed a cup of tea and a bite to eat and were not disappointed by the on site cafeteria. Freshly made stotty cake sandwiches were on offer with assorted... More

Really good place to visit and not expensive at £6.50 or £11 if you include a visit to Vindolanda which can be used on a different day if you wish. Some good stuff in here and a great 3D birds eye view film of a section of Hadrian's Wall. There is a shop and a tea room. Some good walks... More
