A magnificent 17th century ducal mansion built on the site of the original Medieval Castle. The Castle has a turbulent past, linked to kings and conquerors and still has a maze of original caves hidden beneath its imposing walls. Now the building houses a Museum & Art Gallery, offering visitors an opportunity to see the best regional, national and international art in the regularly changing exhibition galleries. Plus the permanent exhibitions showcase costume and textiles, silverware, glass and a glimpse into Nottingham's history.

Peel back the various layers to reveal the true history of the castle. 1000yrs worth of history have changed and shaped the castle to what it is today. Yes it's a museum and art gallery.... But it was the first of its kind outside of London, which makes it special to me. Once you find the whole story, it all... More

Disappointed at the start, having read tourist leaflets from the Tourist Information Office in town, I was expecting to pay for a family ticket (2 adults and up to 3 chn). However on arrival at the castle a family ticket is now 2 adults and 2 children, so we had to pay an extra £5. On looking at the price... More

We spent a fun couple of hours at the Castle. The cave tour was the highlight in all of its thespian glory! It was more like promenade theatre than a tour. Wear flat soles shoes like trainers for descending the caves, the steps are uneven and covered in the eroding sandstone. You don't want to tumble down Mortimer's hole by... More

Well first you need to make sure you have good walking shoes on. The museum inside the castle is interesting and well laid out , even good for children with the Robin Hood links. Thankfully not over-done to be like Disneyland. Coffee and tea and snacks are available inside , which was a surprise as I didn't pick that up... More

We were actually at the Museum for the cave tour they offer. After a brief history of the kms of caves going around the city of Nottingham, the guide made us discover some old caves just under the Museum itself and its relation with Mortimer back in the days. Very god tour indeed! Not too long, but not too boring.... More

I had the pleasure to visit the Nottingham Castle Museum & Art Gallery in February 2017. I have to say that the exhibits are all amazing and gave me a fantastic tale of Nottingham & the history of Robin Hood. The exhibits were very clean, and showed a lot of care. The museum has several floors and each has its... More

Educational, fun, modern, cosy, adventurous. Perfect for family fun. And you'll just love the Nottingham panorama off the terrace.

The site wasn't exactly what I had expected, but it is still lovely nonetheless. We didn't spend much time outside as the weather was miserable. All of the staff who we encountered were extremely polite and lovely to talk to. They were very welcoming, helpful and full of information. There was a lady in the art gallery, full of older...
