A magnificent 17th century ducal mansion built on the site of the original Medieval Castle. The Castle has a turbulent past, linked to kings and conquerors and still has a maze of original caves hidden beneath its imposing walls. Now the building houses a Museum & Art Gallery, offering visitors an opportunity to see the best regional, national and international art in the regularly changing exhibition galleries. Plus the permanent exhibitions showcase costume and textiles, silverware, glass and a glimpse into Nottingham's history.

The castle is beautiful both on the inside and on the outside. The whole architechture is breathtaking and so are the gardens. We highly recommend the cave tour. The guide was dressed up as a friar and he gave a really interesting tour around the castle and the caves beneath it. He was really nice and funny. He was always... More

The day at the castle and art gallery was good however as far as the castle goes it's not quite what expected. The 'castle' is more likely a large house. But is still kept very clean and tidy in appearance. The view across the city of Nottingham is excellent from the large walls. A very good day.

We had not checked reviews on the before we went and thought it would be more like a castle. However, really there's only one wall and the gatehouse remaining. If you are looking for a castle then this is not for you. If you want to look round a fairly interesting museum/art gallery for £7 then go for it. The... More

Well worth a visit and a good way to spend a couple of hours. The exhibitions were interesting and varied. The local history section was particularly good and we had a good laugh trying on the Robin Hood costumes.

Well worth visiting if you have a couple of hours spare . The history of the castle and of Nottingham was interesting. We had a laugh at some of the modern art which lacked imagination especially a board with some smears of artex on available for 1000 odd pounds. The Robin Hood exibition was also lacking in imagination which could be disappointing... We paid 7£ entrance and did not get any concession even though we are students but maybe German students are second class students. The castle itself is quite nice, from the outside! The inside does not have much in common with a castle. It is more like an art exhibition and a child oriented learning experience. It is definitely not... More

I pre booked blue badge parking ,not very easy to find ,had to go through gated area by asking a man at the gate , it is very good to have that facility as it is in the central of town . Castle is mainly about art and sculptures, very different from what I was expecting . Garden paths were a... More
