This very old tower (9th century??) is seriously worth climbing for the amazing views from the top. Tip: be relatively fit (or at least not very unfit) before attempting the climb! One my my favourite places to take visitors.

There are quite a few stairs, but unless you have mobility issues every one can make it. You have 2 levels where you can stop and rest if you require with some info about the building history. Nothing amazing but nice to see.

Having been unimpressed with the view from the castle mound (not high enough to see over modern developments) we decided to try our luck at the church on high street, but the queue for that was ridiculous so we walked away. We figured this tower would have a good view of the city spires, and it did, but from up... More

Carfax Tower is easy to climb and not too strenuous if you are relatively fit and you can see the pretty colleges of Oxford from the top. Also it is a cheaper options than some other towers.

Not for those who have eaten too many pies, but if you don't mind a couple of very slim winding metal staircases and a slightly wider stone staircase, then the view is well worth the climb.

After paying your £2.50 entrance fee, the first ascent you make up Carfax Tower is up a metal spiral staircase. A warning - it's not very roomy. You come to a large landing where there is a good bit of information about the tower and some places to sit. As I was concerned about getting dizzy, I was glad to... More

You can climb up inside this church tower in the center of Oxford and get some amazing views of the colleges from up here. It is rarely packed and offers a different thing to do in Oxford. The entrance fee is cheap and climb is not too strenuous, there are some quite steep spiral staircases that might not be good... More

If you make the effort to climb the 99 steps to the top you are rewarded with wonderful views over Oxford.

Carfax Tower is located at the junction of Cornmarket, High Street and Queen Street. It is in effect the centre of Oxford. It used to be part of St Martin's church dating back to the 12th century. It is not a very high tower, and so the views of Oxford are not great. The clock chimes every fifteen minutes.

A short climb up the tower gives you a good view of Oxford. Nothing exceptional but cheap and quick.
