Our guide, Rowland Jenkes, treatened to hount us if we didn't give a five-star recommandation on TripAdvisor. And there you go.... I didn't. The guide was great. Dressed up, knowledable, funny and informative. I would give him five stars without hesitation. But the castle itself let us down. Being used as a prison rather then a castle, it was of... More

Although there is not a great deal of the castle left and most of the remains of the jail are now a hotel there is still a reasonable amount to see and it is brought to life rather vividly by the guide (for us this was the fellow dressed as the former governor of the jail). All the staff in... More

Informative and entertaining this is a great way to spend some quality time in Oxford. This tour which can also be interactive was well presented by Sir Robert D'Oyly and the high quality of customer service was backed up by the likes of Kieran. Amongst several highlights of the tour was the amazing view afford by the climb to the... More

There is not much left of the Oxford Castle. But our guide made histoty come alive with engaging storytelling and visitors participation. There are lots of stairs to climb so be sure to wear sturdy shoes. Perhaps more interesting than the medieval history was the story of the prison within the castle which amazingly only closed in 1996.

Took part in the Unlocked tour over the Easter weekend and found it well worth a look! Our guide, Solomon Wisdom, was very informative and engaging and we came away feeling we had learned a lot. Climbing St George's tower gives great views over the city, even on a drizzly afternoon, although children under 5 were not allowed up, I... More

What value for money! Amazing tour. Really couldn't believe the amount of history and information for the £10.95 we paid for the tour.

I was visiting Oxford for one day and the castle was an excellent choice. It's enjoyable and at the same time doesn't take much time. Thanks to Empress Matilda, our guide for her lovely tour inside the castle (Oh! I wish you claimed the throne back then 😃) I had a very nice time

On a day trip to Oxford, we visited Oxford Castle unlocked. Our tour guide was very good and knowledgeable. The tour lasts about an hour and then you are free to go back and wander round at your own leisure. The start of the tour is a bit strenuous as you climb the tower, the stairs are very steep, narrow... More

Our guided tour led by Roland Jenks was very friendly and informative about not just the castle but also to the city of Oxford. I must say it was quite interesting to learn about the jail and the conditions that the prisoners. Great photo opportunities on a clear day on top of the tower. Unfortunately if you have children or... More

You must be on a guided tour in order to visit the castle which is an average one to tell you the truth. Nothing special to see, this place became a prison and some stories are told by the guide people to the group. If you like castles go for it, if you do not have much time and you... More
