Have been here for a few independent concerts/semi-pro gigs and it's a lovely grassroots place with passionate workers and artists alike. I have always struggled to find parking around here but I must put out there that there is a BRAND NEW car park opened up on Church St, RG1 2SQ, offering cheapest nearby parking!

South Street is more of a community centre than a main events centre for Reading, but does host a lot of alternative events along with some great comedy. However, it is now under threat of closure, leaving The Hexagon (an old, pretty horrible place) and the Old Town Hall (a decent place, but too large for some events) as the... More

caught the tale end of the Peace and Love Concert at this venue which was part of International festival for Black History Month. South Street seems to host a good range of events.

Been to this place more times over the last 5 or 6 years than anywhere else in Reading. An important part of Reading's music and art scene. Highly recommended. The place could do with a bit of modernising (The hand dryer in the men's looks like something out a 70s space movie! Plus doesn't dry your hands.) but it is... More

Want to see something a little different, not boringly mainstream, this is the place. Good quality talented drama, comedy and more. This venue needs supporting - it gives Reading something it desperately needs.

We are regular visitors to this great little Arts Centre. The range of events offered range from folk music to poetry to comedy to theatre. Prices are low, staff are welcoming and the atmosphere good. The small venue makes it easy for the performers to interact with the audience which makes the experience special.

I have frequented several shows here over the last few months, and the venue never disappoints. Close enough to the town centre to be within distance of everything, yet it remains nicely tucked away behind several of the main streets of Reading, so that one is not accosted by passers by when queuing outside or when leaving. The staff are... More

Great little theatre, with two performance spaces offering something interesting almost every night. The staff are easy-going, but the volunteers are a bit odd – theatre volunteers generally always are, anyway ;) We sat through two painfully mediocre comedy acts recently, and while the whole night went on for way too long, it was okay, because the South Street is... Has a nice gritty feel to it. Sang here in June 2009 & in 2012. Have attended numerous events. Has a relaxed laid back feel to it, would recommend.
