Romantic history was our subject for the month and the site did not disappoint. You can walk along the entire inner city and sometimes even on the wall that partially stoll exists. The amphitheatre is also still partially there. All in all a worthwhile visit.

I take my grandaughter to silchester it's a lovely walk at the end of the walk there is a really pretty church. If you come out the exit by church there is a amphitheatre .this is a very long walk with no seating.

This is a large site, consisting mostly of Roman walls (with the poorly preserved remains of an amphitheater). It requires significant walking from the parking lot and the bathroom facilities consist of port-a-potties. Nevertheless, it is an interesting destination. The highlight of the experience was...More

This is really quite a big site but the information and in particular the way marking could be much better. I ended up following the Silchester trail which took me to the village not the Roman remains. The town walks are well preserved and the...More

Very disappointing. Large carpark and a bit of a walk to the site but nothing to see. All excavations covered with soil and grass/weeds growing quite high so makes it difficult even to visualise what it was like apart from the odd info board. Just...More

We downloaded the audio tour from the English Heritage website and walked around with the guide. Very interesting - highly recommend. Really enjoyed the walk around the walls. Less to see than we thought, but still very good. Amphitheater was a must to see. Not...More

We love coming to Silchester Roman town - it works the imagination to try and imagine what it would have looked like when it was a busy town. The children always enjoy going into the Amphitheatre. It's dog friendly, so we often come here with...More

Not much to see or learn about to be honest. Makes for a good walk more than anything else. If you are a history nut go, if you're not don't...unless you fancy a nice family walk.

In common with many other English Heritage places it is a fine ruin but ruin it remains. As others have said, it is difficult to visualise what was once there despite the informative pictures. Think of it more as a pleasant walk rather than the...More

Yes not a lot to see above ground, bar the amphitheatre & city wall, pleasant walk & it's all free including the carpark, nice views of the countryside around. Exposed to the elements.

Yes, dogs are allowed, we often walk our dogs here. Sometimes there are cattle grazing and they have to be on the lead through the churchyard, but in general it's a nice place to walk dogs

I am almost certain you could walk as far as the amphitheatre on a fairly even path and so it would be wheelchair friendly.
