Just east of the centre this park is worth a visit, as it has an impressive lion (commemorating dead soldiers in a previous war in Afghanistan. 1880) and the ruins of an abbey that was erected in the 11th century. Definitely worth a (short) walk.

Forbury Park is a lovely quiet spot in busy Reading and well worth a visit. The huge lion statue which was constructed in memory of those who had fallen in the Afghan War of many years ago is particularly impressive.

Forbury Gardens is just a general grassy park with the Reading Lion in the centre observing everyone. There is also a war memorial and a cafe.

Don't expect too much. It's a nice little park, perfect for a short walk or to sit down and enjoy the sunshine.

The Lion in the Forbury is a very well known monument, there is a mistake with it if you look closely, I will leave it up to you to decide but this does not detract from the beauty of this monument.

The more you wander around these gardens the more you find to see. The Mound in the centre is a bit of a mystery and is being investigated as a possible Motte with a connection to Henry 1 of England? The Forbury was part of...More

We didn't honestly find much to do in reading in January, but the park was a nice place to chill out with a takeaway coffee, and the lion statue is particularly impressive. There is also one just outside the park of a winner of the...More

This park really is a nice centerpiece to Reading town centre. Probably could/should be leveraged a bit more than it is.

Walking distance from train station. Beautiful little park with plenty of history. Great place to just sit and unwind. Next to Abbey Ruins. The Maiwand Lion statue is located here.

Forbury gardens Reading Berkshire is a nice place to visit for a stroll around or just to sit down and watch the world go by. It’s very old with its statue, plus a really well kept garden.

At Forbury Gardens? It's a public garden, so just walk around and enjoy its beauty. If you want specific tips about other bits of Reading, feel free to ask - I live here.
