Lovely peaceful walks along the canal. Lots of places to have something to eat and drink. I can recommend a visit here

Leaving the town of Hungerford behind walk west to the second swing bridge and cross the canal here entering the water meadows - meander along with the canal over on the left and the A4 over on the right. Cows graze and the river Duns tributaries feature, some full of watercress. Continue on to the far swing bridge with the lock keepers cottage in front of you. Cross the swing bridge and walk back to Hungerford. Deviate off the towpath to walk past the church continuing on admiring f lovely residences and the halls arriving at the high street. Walk down the high street to The Bear Hotel and have their lovely lunch. 3 miles 1 1/2 hours.

We had a great time walking along a portion of the path by the Kennet & Avon Canal. The canal is 87 miles in length. It was fun to watch the boats in the locks and how the bridge was manually moved to allow the boats to cross.

This canal has a interesting history going back 200 years.

Walk often from town towards theale, it's a great walk. Lots of wildlife to see and the kids love to watch the boats go through the locks. The cunning man pub is right along side the canal and makes for a great rest stop.

What a great trip aboard The Rose from Hungerford Bridge with Charlie, Helen and the crew, under strict Covid conditions they real made us welcome for the 2.1/2 hour trip along the canal through two locks. Charlie was an excellent skipper who told us the history of the canal , Helen made a lovely cup of tea. If you are fit enough you can help with the winding of the sluice at the locks and help push the gates open. A really enjoyable afternoon keeping an eye out for Kingfishers , and ducks. Fantastic value at £9 per adult.

The Kennet & Avon is a wonderful distance to travel through our wonderful country. But do research thoroughly the way you travel. Hire boat, Hotel cruise. It can make or break a holiday. Over the past 8 years I have thoroughly enjoyed every moment. But just recently my memories were ruined. Which was a huge disappointment as it was a holiday that was really looked forward to

if you travel towards Bath in a canal boat there are too many canal boats that have been there for months and months some had licences that have not been renewed since 2016 . the canal its self is a beautiful place to walk along

Is this body of water is beyond redemption? We hope not. Stop the pollutants getting directly into this once pristine canal.

Super place to walk alongside the canal on the towpath and watch the boats and wildlife go by. Quiet and peaceful area to walk.
