Visited The Arts Tower once and enjoyed a great view of Sheffield. You don't really get that any where else. The building may not look great from the outside but seems rather functional and the constantly moving lift is great if you want to move only 1 -3 floors up or down.

Visited the Arts Tower in the 70s and wanted to revisit. Its an open building and so able to see the inside - especially the Paternoster Lift. Worth seeing and if possible travelling on - If you dont know what it is look it up on Wikipedia. A great structure still serving a perfect service. Not sure if you should... More

Terribly designed. Architecture popular 30 years ago but nothing special today. Paternoster (a continually moving elevator) is slow and doesn't feel great. Overall not worth any sort of trip but if you're passing may as well.

It was originally designed to have four lifts in the core but the paternoster replaced two of them during the design stage, to get easily between nearby floors, without waiting for a lift or using the stairs. Sometimes people travelled full height in the paternoster to avoid waiting for the two remaining lifts. It was a great place to study... More

Living nearby, I used to take my kids up in the paternoster to admire the views. Now there are security guards, and I suspect the unauthorised won't get in. Great views if you do manage to get to the top.

The Arts Tower is of interest from an architectural perspective and it is of interest due to the Paternoster lift system. I studied languages here many years ago and now it seems to be totally architecture students. It is a Sheffield icon.

The arts tower has been a local landmark in sheffield since the 1970s and is an important way point for local astronavigation. Best viewing is late a night in June when you can spot the architecture students doing an 'all nighter' to finish their final project, by the light in the upper storey windows

i live a few minutes walk away from the arts tower, and i'm pleased about that. the arts tower is the second tallest building in sheffield (St pauls towers is now the tallest) and contains a "paternoster lift", where the cars travel in a loop up and down a shaft in side the building (they don't stop). it can be... Why is this building listed on here as an attraction?! It's a place of study for Sheffield University students! Yes, there's a lift inside that never stops but, seriously, there are FAR better things to see in Sheffield! Try Weston Park Museum around the corner instead; that's an ACTUAL attraction.
