Really interesting place to visit. Audio tour is very helpful, especially as the site changes over several hundred years. The audio guide points out the various owners additions and updatings, from a draughty main hall to 16th century panelled rooms. A lot of walking up and down stairs some wider and some very narrow especially those to the main tower. But anyone still fairly firm on their feet it is all easily negotiable and the guide gives you plenty of warning.
A really fabulous place to visit several times.

We visited Stokesay castle whilst on holiday in Tenbury Wells. It is well worth a visit and easy to imagine, with the aid of an audio guide, how people occupied it many years ago. On the day we visited it was freezing cold and the ice cold wind whipped through the open to the elements windows of the great hall. The rest of the castle wasn't quite so bad. Would have given a full five stars but for the hard sell for membership, that we didn't want and didn't take up, at the entrance. There is also a nice little church right next door to the castle which is worth a visit.

Fascinating manor house. Tickets include an audio guide, which I would really recommend. Staff were friendly and helpful. The cafe over the road in the car park doesn't have a very wide-ranging menu and they'd run out of a lot of stuff (although they said that was because it was their last day of the season I think). Nice hot chocolate though, and the cakes looked good!

This was a fabulous visit and I say that having been to dozens of properties over the last 18 months. It’s not like anything else and it’s not just a few stone walls, it’s complete buildings with roofs, floors and stairs. There are three very distinct buildings from differing periods with information and displays in each. There is also an audio guide but I found it a little annoying as it assumes a specific route which can be a problem if you’re trying to avoid crowds and you deviate from their presupposed route. Still a great visit and recommended.

This is such a beautiful place. The gardens were a delight and added to the splendour of such a historic castle. The views are extensive and there was plenty to amuse even the toddler. A perfect place for all ages, although there are some steep steps inside. The cafe seemed good too, although it stopped serving food rather early and had a limited range available, but was cool inside and also had outdoor seating.

Taking advantage of our English Heritage member we chose to visit Stokesay Castle as it looked interesting online.

Built in the 1280s and 1290s it may not be the biggest but it is beautiful and has a real magical feel to it.

All of the English Heritage team were great and made a real fuss of our furbaby Bert who whilst couldn't go inside the buildings him loved exploring the grounds and watching the nesting Swallows.

I can definitely recommend a visit.

We were leaving Shrewsbury to visit Ludlow and this was en route so we thought we would have a look. We were glad we did. Not strictly a castle but a fortified Manor house with it's own tower and moat, it was a great find. We used the personal audio tour which meant you didn't have to follow a specific route as each room or area had it's own code you simply keyed in to the speaker on a lanyard. There was far more to see than we expected. It was sunny day but at the top of the tower the wind whipped across so take a jumper. Some of the stairs are tight and you can't pass on them, but it all added to the general atmosphere of what it would have been like to live in and defend. It took us 1.5 hours to go round and it was well worth the fee. Even has its own church in the grounds.

Last time I came here was 1985 on the way back from a family holiday in North Wales, and I’m glad to say it hasn’t changed.

Interesting fortified Manor House set in some gloriously peaceful Shropshire countryside. Do take the free audio guide or buy a guide book as there is very little written information as you go round.

Nice little tea shop that also does hot food.

This is an extremely interesting place to visit. We were a given audio tour to learn about the history of Stokesay - this definitely added to the experience.
Great views from the tower and fascinating to see the swallows darting in and out of the windows to their nests.

All the staff were very friendly. The gentleman in the cafe couldn’t have been more helpful. The cafe has a lovely outdoor seating area overlooking the fields.

The church next door is well worth a visit too and if we had had more time we would have explored the surrounding countryside.

Well worth a visit if in the area.

A beautiful castle set in beautiful gardens, amongst the picturesque Shropshire hills. It is largely unrestored but it has a long and interesting history. The ancient church next door is also well worth a visit. Add to this a nice tearoom serving cakes and simple meals and you have a lovely day out.
