A typically beautiful Somerset village, set out with tourists in mind but beautiful all the same. We had a lovely day exploring here

This is a beautiful small place, with some great attractions and amazing local shops. So many places to eat and drink or buy local gifts like cider and cheddar. We would definitely come back.

Tourist attraction, I say that in a negative way...parts of the town were a bit too cheesy.

I love cheddar cheese so of coarse I wanted to go to the town that it is from ;)

We also hiked the gorge cliff hike and sampled some cheese.

Popped in to Cheddar Parish as we were doing the rounds on all the local Christmas markets and decided it was time for a well earned coffee break.
Parking out of season easy and plenty of areas to park ...being a blue badge holder i found it nice and easy with bay parking on the road and designated spots in the car parks
the car park we used was near the Jacobs Ladder and is free to badge holders.
had a nice walk around the shops and alongside the stream where there is a sword set in stone at the village side near the Cheddar Cheese Company.
On walking around we even come across the Deer statues set on the island in the middle of the stream so had to get a few pics as well.
all in all a enjoyable couple of hours relaxing and as it was the middle of November it was not to busy or crowded for us .

Such a shame, I last went to Cheddar many years ago and it was a busy tourist attraction. Unfortunately due to Covid this village is know like a ghost town, the caves are closed and the retailers are struggling, with lots shut or having closing sales.

I truly hope they can survive and get back the tourists.

Cheddar is a typical West Country village set in dramatic scenery in the heart of the Mendips. Its claim to fame is of course the caves although there is a lot more to see than just this - the hills above Jacobs Ladder, the little stream that meanders through the town and of course the restaurants, pubs and shops - and yes, some of them do sell cheese! Whatever the time of year it makes for an excellent day out.

Interesting and enjoyable experience, even though we went on January, all the attractions were open. The staff on hand were friendly and knowledgeable. Very Clean and tidy with plenty to see and do

Very pretty village spoilt by the increasing number of tat shops . Parking often difficult and very busy at weekends

Enjoyed our visit as it was not too busy. Cheddar Cheese attraction is interesting - prices of cheese high because of the quality of the goods. Super little cottage tea room on the corner nearby takes you back in time.
