Entrance was on a donation system. Our whole visit was wonderful.Wells cathedral is a gem.The ancient clock was a delight. Our only regret is that we didn't give our wasted entrance fee for the Bishops Palace to the Cathedral.
So advice to all.Give generously to this wonderful building and give the Bishops Palace a COMPLETE miss.View this from the outside only.

Beautiful cathedral. When we were there there was a concert on so it was lovely to hear that as we walked around.
I especially liked the the Chapter House and undercroft.
It’s donations only which is very inclusive.
Best part was that it is dog friendly, we always have our dog with us as we usually visit places as part of a walk so it’s great to actually be able to all go inside to visit together.

We have visited a number of time before (I have a vague recollection of the swans ringing the bell at the Bishop's Palace more that 60 years ago) and it is always a delight. Staying in the city centre almost gave a different view of the cathedral as we were able to view the outside both early morning and at night. It is always a wonder and pleasure to come here.

While in the area we decided to visit Wells as we hadn’t been before, it’s the smallest city in England I believe. We wanted to have a look around the cathedral while we were there, there is an optional fee to enter £5 - £6. The cathedral is very large for the size of the city, during our visit they were rehearsing for a Christmas event but you could still look around the full building. It is worthwhile visiting if in the area & looking around the city.

Beautiful, grand and interesting. Loved it. Great location in the city so we could explore the shops and market too. Highly recommend.

Wells claims to be England's smallest city but certainly worth a visit. The cathedral is near the main street, easy to find. It was completed and dedicated in 1239. The west front has a fabulous gallery of medieval sculptures, with biblical scenes, kings, bishops, angels, 12 apostles and Christ over them all.
Entrance is by donation. For senior citizens it was a modest £5 per person.
There is plenty to see inside including the Scissors Arches that look very modern but were added around 1340 to fortify the tower's foundations.
There is an amazing clock dating from around 1390. Every quarter hour it gives a display of mechanical jousting knights, who ride in a tournament.
One final point, we had to use coins to pay for parking in Wells because we did not find car park that accepted payment by app

Wells Cathedral dominates the city and for good reason - the architecture is simply stunning and is a must to visit.
Inside the Cathedral is equally as breathtaking and it's history is very interesting.
A very enjoyable visit.

A lovely ornate exterior to Wells Cathedral and inside doesn't disappoint either. Free entry but they do expect a donation, small cafe and toilets.
