We spent a long afternoon here with our children (7 and 10). We drove into town, had a look see and stumbled upon this park. We didn't want to leave! We got some food from M&S and had an impromptu picnic. The kids ran around the whole afternoon, never tired. And no electronics requests for ours!

What a lovely place to visit in the heart of BSE! The gardens are gorgeous, especially in the spring/summer plus there is so much history there, including a meeting of the nobles who were to force King John to sign the Magna Carta. A magnificent ruin, you still get an idea of how large the Abbey and it's precincts were... More

And a good dose of history of course Make sure you check out the info boards to get an idea of just how MASSIVE this medieval abbey was. What's left barely does it justice. It's a lovely explore and if you have kids they'll love hiding in the ruins.

The abbey gardens are as lovely as ever. The birds are constantly singing, the grass is lush and the flowers are blooming. The ruins are a majestic reminder of the accomplishments of the past and the place is so peaceful despite the many visitors, there is always a place to feel secluded if you want. I love it here.

When I am in Bury I will regularly stop by the Abbey garden for a quiet walk. It is also a brilliant place to sit on a bench in tranquil surrounds and work.

The abbey gardens are a MUST for anyone visiting Bury St Edmunds. You can tell that the staff and volunteers love the place. The ruins of the 12th Century are really worth seeing and you can feel how vast and important the Abbey must have been. We will return again in June when the rose memorial garden muct be looking... When you walk through the abbey entrance it opens up into wonderful gardens. Not flowering at the moment due to it being February but you can see crocus and other spring bulbs poking up. We decided to go right from the entrance to the kitchen garden, also laying dormant but you can see the start of the herbs growing and... More
