Great day at the nature reserve. We arrived early to get tickets for the boat journey across. The boat only takes 11 people at one time. Interesting history of the radar and weapons testing here and good long walks across the beach to the lighthouse.

We loved...More

This is a deeply peculiar place. It is open strange hours, there's an odd ferry system to get you there, and many of the things you will see are odd. (Alao, the explanations of them are almost incomprehensible.) But it's really good, and you won't...More

Went years ago with another couple. It was a mystery until we arrived at Orford and waited for the lovely little ferry to take us across to the island, I was wearing goldy loafers as we did then and my friend had red suede loafers,...More

We took a boat trip from Orford Quay to sail out and round the island in the River Ore Estuary, between Orford and Orford Ness, which is an RSPB reserve. There was a running commentary about the various landmarks we could see in the distance,...More

Standard National Trust fare this ain't. Orford Ness is a relatively small spit of land, cut off from the mainland by a narrow strip of water. And for nearly a century it was used by the military to test a variety of projectiles - from...More
