If you are not familiar with Newcastle, this real "castle" can seem a surprising find. It is a rare medieval survival in a city of the industrial revolution. Atmospherical and with excellent views.

Learned a lot about Newcastle here. Great, fully preserved castle. Helpful staff. Great views at the top too.

worth a visit to witness something historic in the centre of a modern city. The staff were informative but there did seem to be a lack of written information on display. This may have been due to the reason of maybe they do more guided tours than see it yourself. Nevertheless thouroughly enjoyed my visit. Good photography from the tower.

Initially a Norman castle, this great building appears to have been refortified by Henry II in the 1180's, which can be spotted in the very high quality of the masonry. Like many historic buildings in Wales, this castle is looked after by Assembly Government's historic environment service. For visitors, the monument is set in a picturesque location overlooking the River... More

The inside tour was closed when we walked around the outside, but the word we got was that the inside tour wasn't worth paying for. Very nice architecture and historically interesting information posted outside.

We really enjoyed our trip. The castle was beautiful. We love seeing these historic structures, in this case a 14th century castle with commanding views of the surrounding town and Tyne River below. A must see.

At £6.50 was a bit disappointed with the museum section in the black gate, all was redeemed when we climbed the 99 steps to the top of the tower stopping in the great hall en route. The view is great as are the metal sculptures of archers on the roof. Well worth a look but be warned there are lots... More

I visited this Castle, right in the centre of Newcastle and very easy to locate, whilst enjoying a short break in the City with a friend. I like taking photographs, and this was a great subject. In fact that applies to the whole City. However, I do like to find out a bit more about the history of the place... More

My wife and I spent a couple of hours exploring the castle. It's a fine renovation and a great view from the top. Approx £6 for an adult and I'd say it's worth it. Be prepared for lots of steps as the design of this medieval fortification involved lots of winding stairs and small rooms which I'm sure the kids... More

I've been living in Newcastle for a few months, but I went to the castle for the first time when a friend was visiting. I didn't have very high expectations, but I thought the exposition was well made and it was interesting to read about the history of the castle and the city. It was raining when we went there,...
