- Joasi23South Yorkshire, United Kingdom2,079 contributionsRead up before visiting, interesting little placeActively sought out this beautiful little pub after reading reviews on TA. Not easy to spot as the exterior is very unassuming. Once inside it’s a welcome change from all the loud chain type places surrounding it . The icing on the cake was the vinyl records being played . We timed our visit to get a seat as it’s very small with limited capacity.Visited April 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 29 April 2024
- idopam328 contributionsDon’t miss this gemIf you like a traditional historical pub, beautifully decorated with excellent cask ales , then you must pay this pub a visit. We went here after a friend had recommended it and so pleased he did. Easy to walk past, so seek it out. An early in the day visit meant it was very quiet, we met two lovely gents who chatted to us for ages, it was a very relaxing drink in cosy surroundings in good company.Visited April 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 3 May 2024
- PeterHartlepool, United Kingdom783 contributionsA stunning gemA simply stunning pub , the atmosphere oozes out of the very fabric of this 19th century pub. This pub is a must visit , not many establishments left like this gem. Great selection of draught beer , service good. I called in about 11.30am, very quiet . A great asset for a great city.Visited July 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 2 July 2024
- Leedstraveller66Leeds, United Kingdom156 contributionsIconic pubIconic pub in the heart of the city. Well worth looking up this small but perfectly formed gem. Beers well served. Could do with more zero alcohol options to keep up with the times but otherwise no complaints.Visited July 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 16 July 2024
- johnhouston2Knaresborough, United Kingdom5,423 contributionsThis is a cracking pub.The Crown Posada is one of the oldest and best pubs in Newcastle. The interior is very attractive and the decor is very much in the traditional pub style. The narrowness of the bar gives it a cosy ambiance and the service and beers were top notch.Visited January 2025Travelled with friendsWritten 30 January 2025

It has been many years since we were last here, after moving away from the area - one of the last “proper pubs” in Newcastle. We knew that the new owners of the Fitzgerald group had taken this one on, and hoped they would make no changes to the very ornate historic décor when it finally re-opened after Covid restrictions. And indeed they haven’t, it is just as it always was. I’ve just read that it is the only North East pub in a new book Great Pubs of England – which features a mere 33 pubs so it has to be special! We called in around 7 pm on a Tuesday in November and it was heaving packed, but as we both need to be able to sit or perch somewhere we decided to try a bit later. We got seats no bother after 8, the beer choice and quality was very good, and we were pleased that an old record player was still going strong.

On a visit to Newcastle last weekend, we happened upon the Crown Posada, unsure from the outside as to exactly what to expect when we entered.
We were awestruck. Surrounded by the beautiful splendour which proclaims a glorious past, there abounds an atmosphere which mere decor does not provide.
The busy bar staff were attentive, efficient and slick, assisting us expertly with our choice of local ale. The source of this Posada's success was soon evidenced in the form of Andy, whose personable and intelligent hospitality we were fortunate to enjoy.
It's as if the pandemic had never been.
Of all this fine city's numerous notable landmarks, e.g. the Black Gate, the Waterline, the Dogleap stairs and the Quayside bars, this institution is uniquely outstanding, well beyond it's name.

This is a must visit pub if you’re a visitor to Newcastle. We hasn’t been in for a few years and it hadn’t changed a bit, which is exactly how it should be. We sat in the tiny snug on the left as you enter, its cosy with only 3 tables but you can gaze at the stained glass window. Hubby said beer was good and I had a pinot Grigio which was nice.
We enjoyed our visit, however as we left the bar staff were standing in the doorway smoking and hardly moved to allow us to pass. If they’d been there as we arrived we would have probably walked past. Not a good advert for such an historic pub.

Good beer with friendly service. Would happily revisit. I’d called in with a friend at around 6pm but there were already a few people there, many appeared to be Newcastle fans, gathering before the match that’s was kicking off later, but the atmosphere was friendly none the less.

A group of 10 of us stopped in for a drink whilst heading back to the hotel after a business meal. We were greeted by the Barman’s expletive filled rant about how “ they have to be F*$*#ng joking, there’s only 2 minutes left!”
At this point if the staff had simply told us that they could t serve anymore we would have happily left. However, after being told to “hurry up if you want a drink!” The staff stopped serving drinks half way through the groups order. Half of the group then left whilst the “lucky few” finished their drinks.
The rudeness and inhospitable nature of the staff cannot next excused.
I have been to this pub many times before and was embarrassed to have been the one to suggest it to the group.
There also seems to be a bodily odour that has permeated the very fibres of the pub, to such an extent that you smell it as you walk through the door.
An unfriendly pub with a unpleasant smell.
I can happily say I won’t be returning.

This is what I call a proper pub long, dark with wood panelling and serving decent ales. I could have spent a lot longer there tasting the beers. Long may this type of pub continue. Well worth a visit.

Fantastic selection of cask ales in an authentic local pub. Jools, the local barman, was a delight and told us about the history of Newcastle. He was extremely knowledgeable about all the beers and recommended pleny of places for us to go as a couple. 10/10 will return to the Crown Pasanda when we’re next in the area.

We have passed the door to the Crown Pasada a few times and not ventured in. What an error! We went in the night before New Years eve and began to engage with what turned out to be Landlord regarding the beers on tap. I ventured for a chocolate and vanilla stout on his recommendation. We were then treated to a brilliant insight to the history of the pub and more facts and laughs than are good for you. Blooming Brilliant. Many thanks

Simply the best pub in the North East. Gorgeous interior, excellent selection of quality beers (best Guinness I've had outside of Ireland) and it doesn't ever smell like chips, like most other pubs! No tellys, good varied music selection. Top staff, always welcoming. Long live the crown ❤
