This fifteenth-century, charming thatched cottage was the childhood home of Anne Hathaway, Shakespeare's sweet-heart and wife.Experienced guides explain the stories behind the Shakespeare connection and the history of some well-known English idioms such as "chairman of the board".There are nine acres of gardens and grounds to explore including a lavender maze, a woodland walk, the Shakespeare arboretum and a living willow cabin where you may listen to some of Shakespeare's sonnets.

In a town so full of history, this must be one of the high lights. You could almost be there in the time of Shakespears visits. Totally unspoiled. It will be on my must see on return visit

Excellent place to visit. Exceeded our expectations. Very well preserved and presented. Beautiful gardens. Very well laid out. Amazing to think Shakespeare actually walked on these stone floors. Highly recommend.

A fascinating visit. Great to be able to place Ann Hathaway and Shakespeare in their respective family lives. Beautifully kept house and grounds.

One of my favorites not only for the home but the gardens. They have done a very good job presenting a feel for the life of Anne and her family in this childhood home which at her time was very much smaller. Great staff to...More

This was part of our guided tour. We only saw the outside of the building, which was very pretty and I loved the thatched roof.

We visited the house and gardens on a lovely September's day. We walked from the centre of Stratford-upon-Avon town centre. It was reasonably signposted and didn't take long. The House itself is quite expensive to view but I can imagine the upkeep of the gardens...More

For me this was the least favorite of the combo sights. It was beautiful and I enjoyed the gardens. Maybe it was just too much for me. No offense, Anne!

Such a beautiful location with so much history. Well maintained grounds and building retains its olde world charm and the thought of walking around the same rooms and buildings as Anne Hathaway and William Shakespear was magical. Tour guide was very ehlpful and informative -...More

You need to buy a ticket first. It's a National Trust property, so if you look it up on their website you'll find whether you can pay for just the gardens without the house, which is sometimes the case.

i think it would be very difficult to go round in a wheelchair and not worth it as you cant see the upstairs of the house the garden is also difficult to get round in a chair
