This fifteenth-century, charming thatched cottage was the childhood home of Anne Hathaway, Shakespeare's sweet-heart and wife.Experienced guides explain the stories behind the Shakespeare connection and the history of some well-known English idioms such as "chairman of the board".There are nine acres of gardens and grounds to explore including a lavender maze, a woodland walk, the Shakespeare arboretum and a living willow cabin where you may listen to some of Shakespeare's sonnets.

What an interesting place to visit, full of history and memory's. The staff are full of interesting information and are very helpful. Probably best to visit in the spring or summer as the gardens will be in full bloom, but still worth a visit anytime of the year.

Not the best time of the year to visit if you want to appreciate the gardens. Visited in summer a few years ago and it was fantastic. That said the house was good and the staff very informative and friendly. Best way to see is with a Town and Cottage Pass (can be used for 12 months).

This cottage is far away from the main site of Stratford's attractions but the route to this cottage is worth the walk. The green pastures, grazing animals, vegetable gardens and perfectly designed homes take you to this beautiful cottage which gives you a feel of what it would have been like when the actual inhabitants stayed here. Though the restoration... More

I was on a guided tour of Stratford-Upon-Avon when on the end of the day our tour guide brought us here. I absolutly loved the garden, and I am glad I have visited the house. Eventhough there wasn't that much to see or do. I would recommend this place if you have some time left at the end of your... More

The cottage and garden are just wonderful. The staff at the reception/ticket office were very helpful and the staff member inside the cottage was wonderful and could answer all our questions with a smile. The garden is a gardeners dream so allow yourselves time to explore. This is one of the best “Shakespeare” places to visit. Get a multi-use multi-entry... More

Had a lovely weekend in Stratford-upon-Avon for the 1st time. Anne Hathaway's cottage was the only house we visited. We done the city bus trip on the Sunday with the intention of getting off to visit the cottage, however as it was quite late in the afternoon and a bit cold we stayed on the bus for the round trip.... It was quite an experience to see where Shakespeare courted his bride-to-be and hear their love story. The cottage with its thatched roof is picturesque and romantic. The cottage has the original furniture including the Hathaway bed. It was interesting hearing the stories of the 13 generations of the family who lived here. The cottage garden and the surrounding grounds... More
