It somehow reminds me of the Camden Lock's Regent's Canal in London, just more peaceful and less crowded. The view from canal boats was nice, and there are many restaurants/bars/pubs along the way.

Having walked through the canal basin dozens of times it always seems disappointing to see closed up buildings as you walk along the towpath to the Arena. The old nightclub Bobby Browns has been closed since 2003. The opening of the Canal House that was...More

Interesting history associated with this whole area. A canal trip is a good way of discovering what happened around here over the past 250 years.

Unless spending time at one of the adjoining pubs/eateries the Gas Street Basin is perhaps not somewhere to dwell too long, but as part of a walk along the canal and through Birmingham's industrial heritage, it is a fascinating place. There are layers of history...More

Three stars because the Gas Basin is undeniably pretty. Unhappily on Saturday nights it seems to be a magnet for hen and stag parties, the sort rooted in 80s culture - L-Plates and Blow Up Dolls, that kind of stuff. Lot of pub chains and...More

This place is fantastic, you wouldn't believe you are in Birmingham city centre it's like another world, laid back and relaxed. Canal boats, restaurants, bars, coffee shops it has it all.
