The story of the abbey and its community is explored in the Visitor Centre. Founded over 800 years ago in 1152 discover more about what life was like for the Cistercian monks who lived here for nearly 400 years. Enjoy the abbey's parkland setting next to the River Aire. Take a walk along the river or enjoy a picnic in our spacious grounds. There is also a small playground near to the car park for the little ones to enjoy. This is a great place to explore with children. A well preserved cistercian abbey close to the centre of leeds with plenty of green space surrounding it for extra play. Best of all it's free to get in. There's also regular markets in the abbey...More

Dissapointing to see only one building that we could not get very close too, nice when the weather is hot but stay away from the river as it attracts more insects than tourists

We came for the Peter rabbit Easter event which was tip top entertainment for everyone in a magical setting. It was extremely well organized and had great atmosphere. Thank you for the great experience.

Still charming despite noise from road and very cold weather. Brought back memories of living in Leeds as a student and later living near Abbey across road on Vesper Lane.

The Abbey is beautiful and spent a pleasant hour looking at it and walking around the park. Great for a wander along the river too.

Yes, it is extremely easy to go to Kirkstall Abbey from the Leeds Train Station. I took the bus and there is a bus stop right outside the Abbey. The grounds of the Abbey has paved roads which should not pose a problem to the... More
