Step back in time and wander through the enchanting streets, shops and houses and experience life as a Victorian. As a fun, family-friendly and interactive museum, Abbey House Museum is a great day out for all the family. Come to one of our many family sessions as advertised on our website or pop in with friends for a trip down memory lane.On the ground floor visit Stephen Harding Gate, the 19th century equivalent of a modern high street, for some old fashioned retail therapy. In the back streets, see the home of the window washer woman or pop into the Sunday-School. On the first floor, see our Childhood and Community Galleries along with the changing programme of exhibitions. Abbey House Museum is situated directly across the road from the historical site of Kirkstall Abbey, set in wonderful parkland along the banks of the River Aire.

This is a beautiful, small, but well-stocked museum to the north-west of Leeds. It is well worth a visit if you are in the area, as we were when visiting friends. Contained within the building are a museum shop and a cafeteria. Adjacent to the museum is a free, spacious car park and opposite is the famous Kirkstall Abbey (or,... More

Really enjoyed visiting Abbey House Museum, it was full of interesting things and the Victorian street was brilliant. Loved the "Fairy Tales" collection upstairs and all of the old toys (excluding the creepy Victorian dolls!) It's only £4.50 for adults which I think is excellent value. Didn't eat in the cafe but the prices were typically high.

The old fashioned street with all the old shops looks great and shows how far we have moved on or not from Victorian days. It has changed layout since last I was there, but it's still great to look at and go into the shops and houses. On the second floor, there are loads of very very old penny slot... More

We thought this would be a minor addition to a visit to Kirkstall Abbey but in fact there's lots to see and you can wander round quite freely. Only disappointment was limited hours for the cafe.

We were made to feel very welcome and were informed of the historical facts and the time period the street layouts are set in, and to ask if we had any questions or queries, we were allowed to tour in our own time and the information booklets in each shop was a nice touch, especially in the ironmongers and the... It was interesting seeing what the life has been like in those times but the museum is not very big therefore I would say it's a bit overpriced. However the place it's worth it to be seen.

An excellent location for anyone that is visiting Leeds and area's near by. At a small cost for entry, you are greeted by furniture that starts your mind thinking about how this excellent building use to be. Starting your tour, you get to see an old street setting, with shops, flooring and walls to match. It expands inside to reveal... More

Our party comprised of 4 adults a teenager and a 6 year old. The museum was fantastic and catered for every age. The dress up costumes were a big hit especially with the adults.
