Tropical World at Roundhay Park is one of the most well-loved family attractions in Leeds and only three miles from the city centre. At Tropical World you can take a trek through the rainforest; stopping off briefly in the outback of Australia before a quick excursion through the desert, and all in the same morning! It is home to some old friends that include rare birds, crocodiles, butterflies, bats, spiders, snakes and the meerkats - the cutest family in Leeds. It re-opened in March 2015. This follows some stunning renovations that include the aquarium area transformed into a new Amazon themed zone where you can see new residents including piranhas and salamanders.

Took my son here and it was crammed, the paths where packed you couldn’t even make your way through let alone see anything properly because there was too many people- it’s so expensive for what you get. So disappointing as I’ve been to many places...More

Visited on a Saturday so it was quite busy, lots of families. We're very tolerant of children so not a huge issue for us but would possibly be a downside for other couples. The butterfly house was amazing! One landed on my hand and I...More

I was expecting this to be of the callibre of Whipsnade butterfly enclosure. Instead we entered a large 1990s style conservatory with a few, and I mean few, butterflies fluttering around. As we entered the aquarium section the overhead labels did not correspond to the...More

A most enjoyable place to visit on the outskirts of Leeds next to Roundhay Park. There are plenty of tropical birds, fish and lizardy creatures to see. It's very steamy inside and quite crowded in places but perfect for children as displays are waist height...More

Went with a group of friends around my birthday. Easy to get to and plenty of places to park. We spent a lot longer than we planned here just because it was that good. Highly recommend for families

Kids enjoyed the butterfly area and the different zones were interesting. Be warned it gets hot (unsurprisingly!) but quite crammed and claustrophobic at times.

Visited here with my children and grandchildren. We have visited many times and every time we have all really enjoyed it The butterflies have the freedom to fly where they like and they do have a tendency to land on you As you would expect...More

All of the tropical house is inside and the enclosures are very warm so even if its horrible outside I wouldn't wear to many layers.

Sorry for the delay in answering. Many of the flying birds, butterflies etc are free to fly around. Some of the bigger species are in cages/tanks.
