This was my second visit to the West Kennet Long Barrow, the first time being before I walked the Ridgeway over the summer. It's just a short walk from Avebury, or an even shorter drive. There is parking right alongside the road. This site has a magical feel to it, as one other reviewer has noted. If you go in... More

In sight of Silbury Hill and in walking distance if Avebury, this is an amazing and spiritual sight.

West Kennet long barrow is accessed from the A4 just a very short distance from Silbury Hill. The parking is a small lay by. The walk up to the site is about half a mile from the road and well worth it to see the quite remarkable burial chambers which date back to nearly 4000 BC. The information boards are... More

We had travelled to see Silbury Hill but noticed the sign for the Long Barrow. In the distance debated whether it was worth the walk as the light was fading. Very glad we did make the walk as it is excellent example of a long barrow and one where you can go inside and see individual chambers to the sides.... More

Amazing remains in farmland: Bats nesting (check to poo lines). Wife, not normally interested in such places, impressed.

Having been once before, I walked over to Long Barrow from Avebury via Silbury Hill. It's a non challenging walk for the regular walker and the reward is phenomenal. Long Barrow is a 5.500 year old burial site with five chambers you can walk into. It's all non commercial and you can spend as much time there as you like... More

We parked at Silbury Hill and walked to West Kennet Long Barrow. You have to cross a busy road and walk along it for a while which was not ideal. It is a bit of climb up the hill to the barrow but well worth it.

Went up to the hill and Barrow just as the sun was setting and was met by two Red Kites circling up in the sky, I was fortunate to be the only one up at the Barrow, it has a magical feel about the place as does most of Avebury and it's surrounding areas. It is a great place for... More

We walked out of Avebury to the long barrow and the climb up the hill is well worth it. The fact that you can walk into a burial site that is thousands fo years old is mind boggling!
