This is an English Heritage run site of very large proportions. The car parks are close to the toilets and you can park and walk round the site without paying the entrance fee which only permits you to the castle area. The huge outer walls...More

Originally an Iron Age fort the Normans built a castle and cathedral on top of it. The original bank and ditch are still very obvious although some people seem to think the ditch was a moat. Although the outer stone of the castle was taken...More

My wife and myself went up on a nice sunny day while the boy was at school. If you've an hour spare pay it a visit. It's worth a visit. Lots of signs with detailed info dotted about.

Went after visiting the cathedral at Salisbury, so we wanted to see the original cathedral, old Sarum is an a great sight to view, with the cathedral below.

National trust location. Hosts all sorts of re-enactor days from WW2 to pre-history days. Nice place to walk the dog around the outer wall area. Castle in middle of location. Floor plan remains of original cathedral.

A must see for anyone who cares about where we came from, just a ruin now, but absolutely a must see. You will understand completely once you see for yourself. HINT: Read up before you visit. It makes all the difference. Wow!

A lovely place to visit, fantastic views from the hill with Salisbury Cathedral on the horizon. Slightly off the beaten track, not as well known as Stonehenge of course.

It's worth remembering that this castle is a definite ruin. All that remains is the foundations of the castle and old cathedral. If you want to see a full castle then this is probably not the place for you. As an enthusiast of English history...More

As members of English Heritage this is one of our grandsons' favourite places to visit in the Salisbury area. I wouldn't recommend visiting on a rainy day or on a bank holiday (apparently more than 2,000 visitors at the August Bank Holiday), but at any...More

if you just want to see the ruins maybe 90 mins or so depending if you walk the surrounds. why not add in a picnic or visit the pub avross tne road. If you're trying to cram, combine with stonehenge and Salisbury city. Enjoy
