After all these years Caernarfon’s immense strength remains undimmed. A brute of a fortress. Caernarfon Castle’s pumped-up appearance is unashamedly muscle-bound and intimidating. Picking a fight with this massive structure would have been a daunting prospect. By throwing his weight around in stone, King Edward I created what is surely one of the most impressive of Wales’s castles. Worthy of World Heritage status no less.

How can you describe such a magnificent place... The castle is amazing. You need more than an hour to visit everything. Yes it is empty (you have some exhibitions though) but it is soooo good! The towers are worth climbing the stairs. The corridors are...More

Enjoyed our visit to the castle very much. Very good film showing the history of the castle & continuous showing of the investiture of the Prince of Wales in 1969.

We visit the castle durig the half term with the kids. it is an amazing castle, but when you consider the tower of London (which you can argue this is it's Welsh version) something is clearly missing. lets start by saying that there are not...More

Beautiful views and is a big place to explore, but close soon, I think if you have an English Heritage Card the entrance is free. I forgot mine so I paid £9.50.

Plenty of parking available close by and you could stay all day, though at a price, for peace of mind. There are toilets close by. It is a short, though slightly uphill walk to the castle. Lots of steps as you might imagine , so...More

This castle must be one of the bigger castles in Europe and when you consider that the English Government built six or eight of these at the same time (Flint, Rhuddlan, Denbigh, Ruthin, Conwy, Beaumaris, Caernarfon, Harlech, you appreciate why they caused a budget crisis....More

My husband climbed all over this like a 6-year-old and had immense fun! In his more adult moments, we cherished the history together and then returned on a second day when they had archery [as it was in the Medieval era], blacksmithing, and other special...More

Caernarfon Castle is probably the most impressive of the castles built by the English to keep the Welsh in check. It's a cool place to simply explore on your own - especially of you are a kid - but even better if you get one...More

Take a train to Conwy or Bangor use the Trainline app with an open return. From Conwy it’s the 5 or x5 Arriva bus then catch the 5c in Bangor to Caernarfon. The walk to the castle to the left around the corner to the... More

Understandably for children of that age range, the experience will be a lot more limited, as visiting the castle is primarily for sightseeing and educational purposes. Having said that, the sightseeing alone can be a joyful... More
