- Stephanie P3 contributionsFabulousRainy day but the walk is a good workout. Well worth it even in the rain. Can recommend, also the history of the castle is amazing and I would imagine on a good day the views must be spectacular.Visited September 2023Travelled with familyWritten 3 September 2023
- Carolyn S3 contributionsIncredible views! One of the servers in town mentioned these ruins to us. Otherwise we wouldn’t have known about it. It was quite a little hike up to the top but so worth it. The view and the quality of the ruins were spectacular. Such a lovely day even in the rain. Wear good shoes if there is rain as some of the path can be muddy and slippery.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 28 October 2023

Always a pleasure going up here with the family- one of the perks about having family history here stretching to just after Crimea is that you know some of the area despite living a ways away.
Sublime place to take pictures- make sure you’re prepared with hiking gear and water though!!! Would always recommend.

Lovely view from the top. Walkable from the big car park in Llangollen town, probably allow 30 minutes to get up.

Good walk and nice views. Good way to spend an afternoon with the kids. As with all places lik that parking for easy access can be tricky.

Tough walk to the top but well worth the effort a magical place to visit anytime of year.
What is left of this little Welsh castle is fascinating and the views are simply breathtaking.

Each time to visit Llangollen we say “ must walk up there “
This time we got organised and packed a picnic before leaving home .
Absolutely stunning walk up and down and the views are incredible.
Glad we used our poles as it meant even with my asthma I could get to the top .
We had an amazing view and could see for miles .
Well worth the effort and would definitely do it again

Can you camp on the grounds or would it better to find a hotel nearby?

No camping allowed at the castle. There is a good campsite nearby at Vale Cruccis (remains of an old Abbey) and lots of accommodation in and around LLangollen.

No fee, just a good hike, all uphill. I corrected Google Maps location and hopefully they made an adjustment. My phone showed it at the bottom of the hill about 1/2 mile from Main Street. It is atop the mountain. Took about an hour going up I believe. Beautiful view of the valley and Llangollen.

Hi. I'm planning on proposing to my partner in a few weeks at the top of Castell Dinas Bran.
I just wondered where the nearest place to park is as i'll be carrying a picnic, blankets etc. Thanks!

There are several routes up so you can either park in the town and head over the bridge and follow the signs (quite lengthy), or do like I did and drive along the A542 (Horseshoe Pass) and take the first right after the Llangollen Pavillion (Eisteddfod Showground) and head for the Panorama Rocks. Quite difficult to describe if you're not familiar with the area so I suggest you check a map. This is probably the shortest route up if you are carrying heavy items. Good luck, hope all goes well and you get good weather.

How long does it take to get to the top? A rough estimate for my 5 year old,to plan ?

Thanks everyone. I parked in the short stay car park with toilets, near the tourist information centre.£1 for 4 hours. I walked over the river bridge towards the canal boats ride. Passed the boat ride cafe turned left over the canal bridge to the tiny steps. It took me 40 mins to go up to the castle ruins with my 5 year old and 20 easy mins to come down. We all enjoyed being up. Fantastic views. Picturesque.

Where is the best place to park to walk to the top please?

Hi. If you want a short walk then parking at the sun Trevor pub is probably the best. Then just follow the road up and around to the castle. Easy.
Just make sure you stop in for a beer and some snacks.
