The fortress sprawls over a huge area making it the largest castle in Wales. Like the famous cheese, the castle has long been synonymous with Caerphilly. It dominates. Hogs the limelight. Think slumbering giant awaiting a call to arms. It's also a great backdrop for TV and film. It secured a starring role recently in the popular BBC TV series Merlin.

Impressive and imposing castle sitting right in the town centre and only £6 entrance fee. The castle is one of the best examples of medieval fortifications but could do with additional information posted around the site. When we visited there was no access to the great hall due to the theatre production of Macbeth but other than that you have... More

Visited last year on a day out in Cardiff. Took a bus from in front of Cardiff Castle to Caerphilly and the driver was really helpful to remind me of my stop which was about 40 minutes away from the city. The area around Caerphilly castle is very scenic, the castle is just majestic and there were goose and ducks... More

Parked all day for £2 nearby. Family ticket was good value. A room with an Interactive table was good for the children and one room with a TV to watch. But apart from that, very little to keep small children entertained. Minimal information boards around the castle. Needs more boards telling visitors what each room could have been used for... More

The castle is a must visit when passing from Cardiff. Cheap parking is available really close to the castle. Entry fee is only 6 pounds

I visited Caerphilly Castle during the Caerphilly cheese festival, and found myself not wanting to leave. It's full of wonderful sights and rich history.

This was my second visit to this castle - so majestic, gorgeous surroundings and really puts you back in medieval times. When you see it, your mouth will drop with a "wow" because no other castle has survived time looking this amazing. The moat surrounding the castle is also unique while so many other castle moats filled in, this one... More

When approaching the castle We almost turned around due to the wind and rain but we persevered and we are glad that we did. The 13th century structure dominates the area and it was only completed in 3 years; Kevin McCloud would be suitably impressed ! Once inside it was a pleasure to witness what was still available. Unfortunately there... More

This is a great day out, would recommend going during outdoors weather as there is a lot to see from both inside and out! Spent about 2 1/2 hours here, I can imagine in the summer it would be great to hang outside for longer taking in the scale and magnificence of the castle's architecture. Caerphilly is well maintained and... More

Fabulous castle. It is so accessible and the staff are great. I've renewed my Cadw membership this year and keep going back with the kids.
