An amazing structure, capturing the contents of the rivers Taff and Ely within a gigantic fresh water lake, guarded by a sea lock.

Lovely walk. Interesting. Lots of things to take photos of on the way from palm trees to a giant crocodile. Walked one way and caught the boat back. Fab.

Great area to find restaurants, boat trips and lovely scenery. We only spent the last few hours of our visit down this end of town but it's definitely something we will be looking to return for.

We never tire of cycling round the bay and over the barrage. It gives great views out over the Bristol Channel and inland over the city to the countryside beyond. Plenty of refreshment options.

Walking back from Cardiff Bay to Penarth via the barrage to collect the car from the barrage car park - is there 24-hour pedestrian access or do the barrage gates on the road get locked? If so, at what time?
