Supposedly the place where St Patrick is buried. The cathedral itself is not that interesting but the small town is well worth a visit especially if it's combined with using the ferry to cross the loch. Take care if you're hoping to visit the museum of railways as when we went it was closed even though according to all the... More

We visited this point of interest on May 13,2016 as part of a tour stop. Being Catholic, I felt touched to visit the grave of the Patron Saint of Ireland. So, my trip was a little more than historical. The cathedral is a beautiful work of architecture and art and so well kept by the people of Ireland.

we had a short tour with the resident guide and visited the traditional grave of St. Patrick outside the church. Much of all things here are based on handed down tradition.

Nice photo opportunity even on a rainy day. Presentation on the church and Saint Patrick was quite informative. After the presentation at the church, took in a video presentation at the visitor centre, followed by a nice lunch upstairs in the centre. Not the high point of my travels in Ireland, but still worth some time if you are in... More

Down Cathedral has a history that can be traced back to the 12th century and is worth going to see.It is a stunning sight when walking up the hill.Even though the cathedral is beautiful inside I was unimpressed with the automatic glass doors which opened as soon as you go anywhere near them.Even though they would give easier access to... We finished our mini pilgrimage from Saul Church here. What a let down. Of course I understand the situation in Northern Ireland in respect of religious divisions, but St Patrick 'belongs' to all denominations in Ireland, so I might have expected to see some evidence of recognition of this in the cathedral that bears his name. As a Scottish Episcopalian... More

Beautiful church and legend of three saints. Some say Patrick and two other saints buried here and large rock place there as folks wanted to take some of the soil over the grave and many feared he would be dug up according to the story. Combine this with the St Patrick center for the best experience

Open daily for prayer and to see. I loved exploring the unusual layout of 18th century box-pews along with interesting windows and memorials.

Cathedral is most definitely one of the most beautiful places to visit. Has a lovely serene ambiance surrounding it and within. Graveyard disappointing though if you like the historical aspect of same attached, then you might just have stumbled upon a taste of heaven on earth. Down Museum at bottom of the hill and well worth incorporating into your trip.
