I was staying in an Airbnb just below the castle so I had to make an effort to visit it. I was the only one walking around late one afternoon which for me added to the experience. The views from the hill are spectacular, the ruins have a certain kind of charm, if you're ever in the area I'd recommend... More

Quite a steep hill to walk up but really worthwhile on a clear day as you can see for miles around. Amazing view. Take a picnic and just watch the world go by.

A piece of history nestled into Dundrum and a welcome addition to the local coastal walks. There is a convenient car park at the base of the castle. Recommend reading up about the history prior to your visit; it will give you a better sense of the geographical important of this edifice.

Nice walk up to the castle. Lovely sheep and views a long the way. Even greater views from up at the castle. This type of ruin was just what I have waited my whole life to see! (I am from WA. State) There was no one else around, no fee. We felt we could take our time to explore and... More

Free spot to visit with kids or with family or friends. If you have a spare half hour or hour around the Newcastle/Dundrum area. Lovely views of the mournes and Dundrum bay that you won't get anywhere else. My Gran use to take me and my brother here every summer to soak up a bit of local history. Sometimes the... More

Nice walk, great views and love that it was free. Not much in the way of signage with the history which is a shame.

Good exploring visit with great views over the bay. Suits any little boys who have played knights. Picnic area although it was windy.

We saw Dundrum castle from the road and ventured up to have a look on the off chance it might be open to the public. It was and it was free (that's always a bonus)! We spent a lovely hour looking around the castle and the keep. We didn't venture into the woods. Would highly recommend going to the top... More

Great place to poke around and take pictures, be sure to take the walk through the forest and take in the views across the sea.

We were driving from Dundrum and a friend we were travelling with spotted it from the road so we drove up, we got out to look around and a very nice man asked us if we would like him to open the keep? we all said yes and he said it was a great view and he was not wrong.... More
