Had read about this being the oldest granite Cathedral so had to pay a visit when in the area. It was nice to look around it and then have a wander in the gardens situated behind the Cathedral.
We called by this Cathedral, which was a short walk from the University Campus. It was full of history going back to 1400, with information displayed appropriately around the church. Well worth a visit.
it is lovely to pop in here, away from the busy town centre, and enjoy the peace and quiet. There is plenty of history told around the building and outside in the gardens
Well worth a visit. Lovely cathedral with a churchyard filled with gravestones and memorials. It's fascinating walking around and reading all the inscriptions, some heartbreaking. There's plenty to read inside the cathedral about the history and the future plans for how it could look in 2020. If you're in the area go and visit!
If visiting Old Aberdeen then this church is worth the stop and you can take your time reading thru the history of the making of the church .
A short walk from the Old Aberdeen High Street will bring you to the gates of St. Machar Cathedral, which dates from 1350. This historical old building serves as the parish church of Old Aberdeen and includes a wonderful graveyard filled with ancient headstones. Be sure to climb up to the gallery above for a great view of the ceiling... More
This cathedral is beautiful. The graveyard in front of it is also rather beautiful, but if you enter the cathedral, you will see what I mean. The architecture is good, and the people working there are friendly. You can always chat with them or ask questions. Furthermore, you can also take one of the guides to get a better experience...
