We met at the Bennachie Visitors Centre and had a very enjoyable , informative talk about spring foraging. Some I knew like nettles and birch water but learned I could make tea from pine needles and steam the stems of rose bay willow herb. Relaxing afternoon on the woods. Great facilities at the Centre with information and activities, a small... More

From the gentle paths at the Rowantree carpark to the challenging peak of Mither Tap, this has something for everyone thanks to the Forestry Commission. Great footpaths, fantastic signposting, visitors centre with toilets, there is loads to do if you like the outdoors. Take a packed lunch, put on your walking boots and enjoy the fresh air. I love this... More

Have visited and walked in this area many, many times over the years, both during the day and through the night. It really is a great area with toilets provided at some of the car parks. If you want to get out you car and get to one of the peaks quickly I'm sure you could do this in half... More

I've been at the wife for some time to climb bennachie and she finally succumb. We were joined by another couple who have young children and he weather was kind to us. Being a Sunday it was very busy but the sights at the top were worth the trek. Take plenty liquids

Today was my first visit to the area without going to the top as we had young kids with us. The paths are well marked out and the facilities are the centre and car parking make the walk very accessible for everyone. The part at the very top I steep and it can be very windy so feels unsafe if... More

If you approach from the East Bennachie has the perfect mountain shape, steep sloping sides to a clear and distinct rocky peak. There are several car parks around the mountain. Each sheltered in woodland with numerous low level walks through these woods. The car parks to the East have paths suitable for buggies/strollers where you can take smaller children both... More

Easy to reach from Aberdeen or Inverness for an afternoon out. There's a variety of easy walks through the woods near the car park or a steep climb up to the site of an old fortress. From there you have access to the higher plateau with magnificent views.

Despite the popularity of Bennachie, it is easy to get away and be alone. Be aware that the climb up to Mither Tap is very steep and for the less energetic the walk from Rowantree would suit better. The vies from Mither Tap are wonderful and when the heather is out, it is all magical

I have used these walks many times and in all sorts of weather. Well laid out paths and signage to show you the way although it would be hard to miss the Mither Tap
