Went here today due to the rain. Pleasantly surprised as the exhibits are good. Interesting pieces on the punishments for different crimes and liked the cells. Watch the steps up and down as they are narrow.

This museum is small and atmospheric and makes for an interesting/ educational visit, however it is not suitable for the less abled bodied visitor as the only access is by climbing steep spiral stairs.

Visited 13th August very friendly staff nice old museum to visit whilst in the area. Free small ancient history at offer. Vile criminals to out right laughable rogues in the line-up. 30 minutes maximum you need to explore this well preserve history of Aberdeen.

Not for the less mobile or "Senior" tourist as the stairs take some managing, but well worth the effort if you do climb up!

Warm welcome when entering museum and given leaflet and information about the tollbooth. The climb up and down the spiral staircases was scary and tight but well worth the effort. Interesting look at how local people lived way back 400 years ago and how harsh...More

Retaining the authentic atmosphere results in a succession of very narrow steep stairs, and small rather airless bare rooms.A success in so far as one really feels what it would have been like to be held as a prisoner. Some good information boards about some...More

Went in with my kids and hubby. That figurine of a witch in one of the chambers was so spooky. I hated the staircase because it was narrow & frighteningly steep. But overall, it does give that dreaded feeling of what life could be if...More

This very interesting museum is accessed by a steep stone spiral staircase. The museum contains information about the development of Aberdeen as well as the criminal past of some of those who had been incarcerated.Small but nevertheless a place worth visiting.

Stumbled into this find in downtown Aberdeen. The video was good to watch and it was fun (although they were very narrow) to climb the stairs to the cells. Worth a visit that's for sure!
