Stunning in places and boggy the rest

Did this in 9.5 days.mostly walking 12-13 hours a day and you have to wild camp to get this much time , i.e. Set off about 6am and finish 7-8pm .be prepared to be walking in... read more

Did this in 9.5 days.mostly walking 12-13 hours a day and you have to wild camp to get this much time , i.e. Set off about 6am and finish 7-8pm .be prepared to be walking in squelchy wet soggy bogs for about 35% of the time. The Southern Upland way from Portpatrick to Stranraer is a wonderful mix of tough climbs upand down to the Beaches, walks across marshes and through forested areas. We did the "short" stretch from the start in Portpatrick where we were staying over to the Killantringan Lighthouse. Lovely bracing walk if a little dicey in places where there is a sheer drop from the cliffs and not always a helpful piece of fencing. I was in the area so thought I would do a days walking, did sort hope to dry hope past Saint marys loch great walk and we were lucky with the weather (it did not rain) now looking to do the complete walk well maybe not the full 200 miles. Came down from Scotland in September and called off at Moffat. We went on a trip down memory lane. We stayed here for two nights whilst on the Soutern Upland Way.
