Neighbourhood: West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighbourhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theatres and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.

    Brilliant fun
Really fun escape room to do. Loved the theme and the puzzles were well thought out and very creative. The staff there were friendly, fun and helpful - I’ve had both Gregor and John run my games. Would definitely recommend to anyone in town!
Hey, thanks for leaving such a shining recommendation for our escape rooms!

Good fun. Go with young people with sharp minds and good eyesight. Apparently we did well escaping ourselves in less than an hour. Had a nice meal in Italian restaurant just across the road before hand. Good day all round.
Congratulations on escaping within the hour, sounds like you had a fantastic day out and we are glad to have been a part of it!

The best escape room in Edinburgh
We had a great time at Escape Edinburgh! Me and my boyfriend did the 221B Baker Street room to celebrate our anniversary and we had great fun! Would recommend to anybody ☺️☺️ John was very friendly and chatty, and made the experience very enjoyable!

Sherlock themed Baker Street escape room is very well done! Morrison Street location is a cool building and there is axe throwing on site. Dean was great chatted to us for ages, even gave us a list of future escape room recommendations after our game. Very fun and interactive expierence. Highly recommend.
Hey, thanks for playing Vienna, I'm so glad you returned for a second game and had a great time!

    Brilliant fun!
We booked this for my daughter’s 10th birthday. We weren’t sure if it would be too difficult for them, as it was 4 stars, but it was just the right amount of difficulty. They absolutely loved it. Matthew was vla great host too, and gave us just the right amount of clues so that we managed to escape with 15 seconds to spare!
Hey Caroline, thanks for leaving a review. Great to see the game was pitched just right for your party!

    Good experience
We had an enjoyable experience with escape room. I've never been before. Staff at front desk was friendly and helpful. The staff member who explained what would happen in the room was good also. It was a good first experience but maybe not so many people in at once there were 6 of us. But would do it again
Hey thanks for leavinga review! Sometimes with a large group people like the extra helpful pairs of eyes, but for those who prefer less sometimes playing two games in teams of three instead is a good option. Glad to see you had a great time anyway!

    Fab Saturday morning
We have already done one of the games previously so we did the oceans escape and had a great time! Our host Ray was excellent and very helpful. We are definitely going to come back to complete the last one at some point in the future!
Hey Rachel, thanks for leaving a review! We look forward to your return at some point to play the final game at the Haymarket venue...good news though, we have 7 other games across the city too!

Great fun! My wife & I went here for something different to do. First escape room we had ever done & Matthew was a great host who also helped nudge us in the right direction when we got a bit stuck 😂

    Great fun!
Our second escape room and the first 20 minutes were frustrating and a bit stressful as we didn't feel like we were getting anywhere! But Matthew was a great help in providing clues when we needed them and making the booking really fun! Only point to note is that the room was very dark, which I know was in keeping with the theme but made some of the clues/puzzles difficult and we had to get our phone torches out!
Hey becca, thanks for leaving a review. The "atmospheric lighting" in many escape games can come with its challenges, but it sounds like you problem solved your way through it! Thanks for playing.

Did the Houdini room. It was a lot of fun for a group of mostly-new players. I think it would be a touch too simple for veterans, but it was just right for my group. Our guide was very helpful and honoured our request to not give us hints unless we really seemed to be struggling, which we appreciated as we were able to complete the room without help. The location is good, the room is well appointed and has a nice atmosphere. Would definitely visit again.

Hey, thanks for a glowing review. We get a lot of different teams in and everyone thinks differently, glad to hear it was just right for your team. Completing the game without close is unusual and very impressive, great job!

Escape rooms from this company range from box rooms to better themed rooms. This was definately one of the better rooms available.

We took part in the witchcraft and wizardry room!

We escaped the room with one clue and 15 minutes to spare (Team of two) I don’t want to give any spoilers so I won’t talk about the puzzles as such. I was quite surprised though at some of the things used in this room as you don’t see them money times and a lot of the rooms by this company are pretty basic.

If I was to rate these rooms based on theming ease and puzzle quality is would be as follows:

Witchcraft and wizardry
Theme: **** 4 Star
Flow of puzzles: **** 4 star
The puzzles had a weak flow but could probably be opened together to then move onto other puzzles. I don’t think it would make much difference to the order apart from some missing items.
Ease of puzzles: **** 5 Star
Each puzzle worked well and we did need help once. Being completely stupid and overlooking some simple facts. I’d say the difficulty in this room is about a 2.5 out of 5.

The game is Master was pretty helpful. Though the speech at the start was pretty excessive and could’ve been shortened.
It’s probably the longest pregame talk in any escape room I’ve done so far. He is friendly and offered a clue when needed and played a little bit of a character. Although not sure what we got a time check 3 minutes in but nothing as the time went on…

Was anything broken?
In the first room there was a light out which made it difficult when trying to solve a particular puzzle or even see what you were doing but overall everything was in a good condition.

Feedback:
Maybe remove some symbols to locks. They are not needed and make it to obvious on how or what needs opening. It’s much more fun to find the right lock to open than to instantly be told which one goes to which puzzle. More so when the rooms are not the biggest.

There should be ambience in the room music louder at least. I couldn’t get past the fact you can hear busses and traffic passing above. Even take out some lighting and put in some flickering lamps or provide a torch to keep with the dark and mysterious theme.

Also walking past the clutter and chemical room things to get to the entrance to the room was an “oh no” moment. Made us feel the rooms weren’t going to be that good.

Hi guys, thanks for leaving a review, detailed as always! A lot of feedback for me to chew on. Witchcraft is my favourite of our games too, I'm glad you enjoyed it. I won't respond to your perception of the game difficulty, theme, and flow as this is different for different for everybody really and we get a wide range of different kinds of teams in. I will say that 45 minutes with little help is an excellent time and I remember your team being particularly good when I ran your game. I'm sorry you didn't enjoy the health and safety / welcome briefing at the beginning. As someone who plays a lot of escape rooms myself (on top of managing several escape game venues) I also find these a little dry every time (no matter how funny or charming the GM can be and they often are) so I do sympathise, but I understand that GMs are asked to be comprehensive with every group because the team that gets missed is always going to be the team that misbehaves or makes a mistake and ruins the game for the next people who are booked to play. Not all of our teams are always as sensible as you, especially when we are getting stag and hen parties in, or children's parties, for example. Believe it or not, we do tailor the length and content of the pre-game briefing to the players (save for a handful of key points) and I actually gave your team the short version! We take the health and safety stuff very seriously and ultimately I think that's a positive thing (regardless of procedures at our competitors venues, who I have generally found to be broadly similar) so overall I'm sort of pleased to hear that it is super comprehensive, but I am sorry to hear that your team found it to be excessive. I do think it's a fair point that the soundtrack could be louder. We seek to find the right balance between soundtrack and being able to hear the radios (in the rooms we use them for clues, like W&W) after feedback that we have received opposite to yours in the past, but perhaps have gone too far the opposite way now. As for the light that had gone out, that has been sorted since your game and we have added additional lighting to that first room in the last couple of weeks too as we felt it was still a little dark. Signposting is always a bit Marmite for escape rooms. Some teams love it and feel it provides a structure and logic to the game, some teams would prefer the excitement of trying every code in every padlock or other input trying to find the right one. Ultimately I am in the former camp after playing quite a number of games and think that signposting in escape games is a really good way to contribute to a well-flowing game, but I understand where the latter campers are coming from if looking for a more frantic and chaotic experience. We do have a little storage area at the bottom of the stairs, between the cafe and the rooms downstairs but I should clarify our chemicals are stored securely and safely in a non-public area of the venue. We do have a couple of tubes of glue and paint with our other spare props and craft supplies (kept close to hand for a quick emergency repair, basically) downstairs though. It's a shame that getting a glimpse these left a negative first impression. Anyway, thanks for leaving feedback once again, lots of constructive stuff to examine. I hope your next escape room experience is just as positive!

I wanted to share my experience at the escape room. While the staff was wonderful, and the pricing reasonable, I couldn't fully enjoy it. The room we chose, the magic-themed one, felt disappointingly repetitive. It seemed like we encountered padlock after padlock after padlock, with little variation. Even attempts to add excitement felt uninspired, like simply doubling the number of padlocks. Despite the attempt at a magical ambiance, the interior design fell short of expectations.

For newcomers to escape rooms, especially those trying one for the first time, this might serve as a gentle introduction. However, for those of us who've experienced 15 or more escape rooms, it falls short. In fact, it ranks among the top three least enjoyable experiences we've had.

In conclusion, I'd suggest exploring other options for a more fulfilling escape room adventure.

Hey, thanks for playing! I'm glad you found the pricing and staffing up to your standards, we really do our best to maintain these at the top level. I'm sorry you didn't enjoy every aspect of the game. Padlocks are a very common component of escape games which allow for us to design satisfying, "brain teaser" puzzles on top of the nice (but ultimately simpler) magical interactions that you mentioned throughout the game. A large part of our audience loves the challenge of these, while some people prefer the object interaction nature of some less puzzle-focused games. Each to their own! We try to cater to both in our games. I hope you'll return to try another of our games sometime in the future, thanks for playing!

Me and my girlfriend did the magic emporium escape room. Our host Dean was very friendly and informative on first arrival! The escape experience itself was a great mixture of fun and challenging (Dean offered clues when we hit a few dead ends). Would highly recommend, we thoroughly enjoyed it as a two but as a group it would be just as fun!

Such a great time! Went with my brother and was worried that it would be too difficult to complete with only 2 people, but it worked really well. The room set up/design was really interesting, the puzzles were complex enough to be challenging, but nothing too difficult. The person we had running the session was a lot of fun, really got into character and made it a great experience. The room seemed well thought out and the puzzles flowed well as a sequence, so the objectives seemed quite clear we were never too stuck. Would definitely recommend.

Was really really fun. At first it's a bit daunting and you feel a bit nervous but once you get into it it's so enjoyable. James who was leading us through the game was so helpful. Giving us lots of tips and help when we were stumped. Giving us extra time as well so we didn't feel like total failures lol He made the game quite real aswell and making jokes around the theme to ease the anxiety. So even if you do feel a bit silly just go with it, it's a great game of problem solving and bonding with whoever is with you.

My husband and I enjoyed this room. The last in the Morrison Street Escape for us to do and probably my favourite. I especially liked being on the outside of the shop and working our way in. Puzzles were good and as a team of 2 we got out in 43 mins so not too difficult.

We had a team activity during a work event (three teams 3-4 people each), and we booked multiple rooms for the same time. Everyone loved the experience, it was great working together in smaller teams with colleagues that you don't normally collaborate with during your day-to-day job. We later were very excited to talk about our rooms, who panicked the most, who got upset because they couldn't figure out the clues, and who was overthinking the most :) Surelly, one of the best escape rooms I've visited.

We wanted an activity to do on a wet weekend in Edinburgh and found this escape room. Ray was excellent and explained what we had to do and assured us she would be available for “clues” if required. Although the room didn’t have much in the way of furniture/decoration it kept us occupied and provided a really enjoyable way to spend an hour.
