Absolutely disappointed with your security. Always come in after our shift at other bar in town. Myself and 3 other friends were coming in. 2 of my female friends were drinking all night and got in ok. But security stopped my male friend who was after work literally had 3 drinks before coming in! Absolute disgrace since drunk girls before... More

My first experience of nightlife in Edinburgh, this is a quirky arty alternative venue that has it's own individuality. I was here to see their monthly arts/spoken word/music night Flint and Pitch great range of acts, like the amount of space in the room , it still felt intimate but wasn't squashed in. Staff very friendly had no problems, drinks... More

The bongo is a bit of a scruffy no-nonsense place but they put on a huge variety of different nights and the drinks are cheaper than most places these days. Some nights are good to go to regardless of who is playing but a lot of the time there's a fairly specific crowd there for the music, you'll hear a... More

Refused to re-entry on a Friday(3rd February) evening proclaiming my partner was drunk for entry which was absolute nonsense. There was arrogant bouncer which was bald and skinny.. I'm guessing this is the sort of establishment you don't enter unless you're a teenager in a skimpy outfit. Won't be coming back to Bongo Club ever again..

After a pretty average street party, this was the perfect tonic. Great music upstairs and downstairs, decent drinks and very friendly door staff. Had a blinder

On Friday night (6th May) my two friends and I, all students, queued patiently to get into the club. As we approach the front of the queue the bouncers take an older guy who had joined us in the queue away to the side (we had exchanged friendly words with this guy in the queue, he seemed a decent enough... A mixed age of 6 people looking to spend our staff night our money and rejected for being too old when it's students night. Likely because we were not wearing crappy clothes and dressed nice. I'm only 24 and got rejected for being too old. Crap attitude of door staff. Really would not entertain then with our £500 potential spend!

Went to pick up my bag from cloakroom the next day from cloakroom as I forgot at the end of the night only to find that my expensive earphones had been stolen

Bouncers are paps who think they're solid but would get decked in one bat...apart from that half decent. Espionage is a better night

Well yesterday the bands were great. We were kicked out but I wanted to come back for the party. Had two beers that night. Bouncers didn't allow me in for unclear reasons. I'm pretty sure it has nothing to do with me being the only non white person in the queue. ...

Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
