    Loved it! Worth the time!
We loved the tour of the Royal Yacht! To get up close and personal to something so important to Queen Elizabeth was fun! The audio tour is very good. Sometimes audio tours bore me but this one did not. It covered the history and personal information without being overly verbose. It took several hours to go through the entire site, if you are interested in seeing it all. Highly recommend!
Our complimentary audio guide tour certainly does provide a fascinating insight into the very unique history of Britannia and we are glad that it proved to be a great accompaniment to your visit. We appreciate your kind recommendation of a visit to Britannia to others.

    Interesting and accessible
Great self-guided tour where we learnt many new things about the Royal family, the British navy and this famous yacht. The Britannia is moored just next to a mall with a great selection of restaurants, cafes and shops so we could easily grab a bite to eat afterwards. It took us about 2 hours to complete the tour. We rode the Majestic bus tour (blue line) from the city centre to get here and back easily.
Many thanks for your five-star rating and review of The Royal Yacht Britannia. It is lovely to read that you learnt much about the past of this unique yacht from the complimentary audio guide. As you kindly mention, the Majestic Tour Bus travels to Ocean Terminal, where Britannia is berthed and is just a short journey from Edinburgh’s city centre. Visitors may also like to take the new Newhaven tram line to Ocean Terminal.

An hour and a half well spent
Whilst in Leith we took the opportunity to visit the Royal Yacht Britannia. It was quite busy on the day that we went (a Thursday) even though we had a booked time slot. We opted to scan the barcode with mobile phone to listen to the tour although you can get a handset. It is included so definitely recommend you listen. We didn't get to try the tea room but we did get some fudge from the little shop onboard! It is nice to experience being aboard and I understand the upkeep costs are quite high but the entrance fee is fairly steep. However, when on holiday you indulge in these things and we did enjoy the visit.
It sounds like you had a wonderful time aboard the Royal Yacht, touring the five decks with our complimentary audio guide and learning about life on board for the Royal Family and dedicated crew. As you mention visitors can scan the QR code and listen on their own mobile phone with headphones recommended, or alternatively borrow an audio handset for free to enjoy the tour. Our resident confectioner, Poppy, will be pleased to learn that you visited the NAAFI to taste some of the fudge she makes on board. For the information of others, admission to Britannia is less than other top Edinburgh attractions and includes a complimentary audio guide as well as an Annual Pass which allows each visitor to return, free of charge, for a year.

    So worth a visit.
I walked around the yacht with a smile on my face. What a privilege to see. From start to finish the whole experience was beautifully presented. The staff are particularly friendly and knowledgeable. Lunch was the icing on the cake in the tea room. So glad we went. Thank you.
Thank you for your five-star rating of The Royal Yacht Britannia. We are thrilled that you enjoyed every moment of your visit aboard and that you have made a special mention of our Visitor Experience team. They love to share special stories of the Yacht’s unique history. A stop at the Royal Deck Tearoom is the perfect accompaniment to a visit too

    A royalist's dream
I have to say that the experience of touring this historic yacht was one of the best I've had in years. I walked around the yacht feeling the history with a great deal of pride. There is so much to see, even more than I had anticipated as you get a wonderful insight into the working part of the ship. To see the late Queen's bedroom and audience room was quite incredible and definitely a poignant moment. Also a nice touch to hear Beethoven's symphony no1 being played in the state dining room. The staff are all so professional and kind. I hope to visit again someday!
We are overjoyed that your visit to The Royal Yacht Britannia was truly outstanding. It is lovely to know that you found much to see, with all five decks open to visitors to explore at their own pace with a complimentary audio guide. It will be a pleasure to pass on your kind words to our Visitor Experience team.

    Way better than expected
So we wanted to walk around the Leith area, and I thought we'd walk by The Britannia and just see it from the outside. We get down there, and it turns out that there is really no way to see the Yacht without buying tickets. It's kind of a weird setup. The Yacht is accessible only by going through a large mall building. I think the concept was they wanted to draw business to the mall, but the mall is kind of dead, so it's weird. Anyway, just go with me here. You go to the sort of deserted mall, go to the second level, buy tickets for the Yacht, and after that, everything is great. Like I said, I wasn't that interested in the Yacht, but once we went on it, it was actually great. The Yacht is fascinating, and you get to walk around pretty much every part of it. You can see the bedrooms and dining rooms. The history is awesome. The ship is beautiful. You can even have tea and some light food at a restaurant, which is nice. The view from the Yacht is also great. To sum up, I wasn't that interested in seeing the Britannia, but once we got there, it was way more interesting than I expected. I 100% recommend it. The mall part is weird, but just go with it.
How fantastic to learn that your visit to The Royal Yacht Britannia exceeded your expectations. For the information of others, the entrance to Britannia is through our Visitor Centre, which is located on the second floor of Ocean Terminal Shopping Centre and has enabled us to become a highly accessible attraction. Visitors can indeed explore the many areas of the Yacht, from the State Apartments, the Crew’s Quarters and Engine Room to the Bridge. Thank you for recommending a visit to the Yacht to those in Edinburgh and for rating your visit five stars.

    A bit of luxury
Attended with my sister. We both really enjoyed it. My sister walks with a stick. Staff saw this and automatically offered her a handset that could go round her neck that was very helpful and freed up her hands when needed. The audio tour was also very good. Very informative. We also had a champagne afternoon tea. This was lovely and the staff were very helpful. If you are in Edinburgh, this is definitely worth a visit. Travelling there is very easy on the tram.
How lovely to read that you and your sister both enjoyed touring The Royal Yacht Britannia. For the information of others, the tour of Britannia is highly accessible. Our friendly team of Visitor Assistants are always on hand and happy to assist visitors during their visit. A Champagne cream tea in our Royal Deck Tearoom is a great addition to any tour! It is kind of you to mention that Ocean Terminal, where Britannia is berthed, is easily reached by tram from Edinburgh’s city centre. Thank you for rating your tour five stars.

    Wonderful exhibit
One of the best events on our trip to Scotland. The exhibit is wonderfully laid out and a complementary audio tour really helps to take you back in time. A 100% must visit in Edinburg. Afternoon tea on board is the “ icing on the cake “
How lovely to read that The Royal Yacht Britannia was a highlight of your trip to Scotland. We agree, a visit to the Royal Deck Tearoom to enjoy our tasty food and drinks selection is a fantastic addition to a day aboard Britannia.

A Great Glimpse into the Royal Family!
Amazing tour on the Royal Yacht. We did the audio guide & it was very thorough & we felt that they covered lots of fun & interesting details of the Royal Family on Britannia. We also did afternoon tea, which was delicious!
Visitors do indeed gain an insight into life at sea for the Royal Family and crew of Royal Yachtsmen as they explore The Royal Yacht Britannia. We are delighted that you visited the Royal Deck Tearoom, it is the perfect place to re-energize during your visit. Thank you for rating Britannia five stars.

Great way to spend a couple of hours
We had a couple of hours to waste before our flight home so decided to visit the RYB. We went in the first slot of the day and almost had the place to ourselves for a while, the tour was well organised and I enjoyed the audio commentary. All the staff were extremely friendly and helpful and we had a lovely stop for tea and cake at the tea room ☕️🍰. Certainly worth a visit.
It is great to read that you had a well organised tour across all five decks. Our team of friendly and helpful Visitor Assistants do aim to provide every visitor with an enjoyable visit. We are delighted that you found your visit worthwhile.

We visited here a day earlier than expected due to the weather. We asked if it was Ok to visit. Linda on arrivals was very welcoming and very helpful.
EVERYONE we met during our visit were the most polite, courteous and helpful they could have been, (Even a member of staff walking past in uniform not in position asked if we were enjoying the tour).
I have been to many countries and on many trips but I have never encountered a place where all the staff were so pleasant.
The Royal Yacht Britannia should open a school teaching others how to treat guests.
I booked this for my wife who is very interested in all things Royal but I will admit with the informative audio guide and wonderful display (especially the engine room) was very impressive and I thoroughly recommend this. You will love it.
Thank you everyone.

Our group purchased the Royal Edinburgh Ticket (57£) which included the Royal Yacht Britannia. This was my first time to the UK, so it was very interesting to see an attraction that provided lots of history and insight in a very specific aspect of the Royal Family's lives.

My partner really enjoyed this attraction and the audio guide was complimentary, so that was great! Plan to spend about 2-2.5 hours here if you follow the audio guide from start to finish.

Another cool thing about this attraction is that it's located next to the harbor and in a mall, so there are lots of places to eat amazing seafood before or after your tour.

Many thanks for visiting. What a lovely review! We are delighted that you enjoyed your tour as part of the Royal Edinburgh ticket. It really is a wonderful way to sightsee en route to Britannia with 48 hours on the tour buses, as well as tickets to Edinburgh Castle, the Palace of Holyroodhouse and The Royal Yacht Britannia. As you say, a tour of the Royal Yacht offers a fascinating insight into the lives of the Royal Family.

As a royalist what better way to spend my birthday then on Royal Yacht Britannia. Easy to get to from our hotel in Edinburgh. Yes there are some road works in front of the ocean terminal building but regeneration will in the long term being more tourists to Leith I’m sure and once into the terminal building shopping mall you have a good opportunity to wander out onto the boardwalk for your first view of her. Wow she didn’t disappoint and it brought tears to my eyes.

Excellent customer service at both the ticket desk ( pre booked) and the audio tour collection point.

You enter a small museum area before boarding the yacht via steps or lift starting on the fourth deck working downwards from the wheelhouse to the engine room with the private and royal quarters and sun terrace in between.

Audio tour was free as part of the ticket and we’d highly recommend you take this option and it’s narrated by Mark Bonnar who has an amazing voice.

Each deck has so much history but for me there were two highlights that stood out for me. The first was seeing every clock stopped at 15:01 as I so clearly remember watching her Majesty the Queen shed a tear when the yacht was decommissioned after she disembarked at precisely that time and secondly and most poignantly for was walking the same deck that Diana was famously photographed rushing to her sons with her arms flung out to embrace the princes.

So much history so many memories shared aboard this living museum.

After a couple of hours of wandering the four decks and outside areas we headed to the famous tearoom. Despite not being able to pre book tables our arrival was impeccable timing as we were given table 1 by the window which afforded us fabulous views.

As it was my birthday we indulged in a Moët Chandon cream tea for two. Sandwiches (cream cheese with smoked salmon & chicken and bacon) were exquisite as was the warmed fudge cake and fruit scones. Even the little touches like the firework topping on the cappuccino sums up the excellent attention to detail as it was Nov 5th.

Biggest shout out goes to Gayle who I believe might be a senior staff member. She went over and beyond to make my birthday trip to the tearoom and yacht a memorable experience. I will treasure the small gift always. Thank you

From the moment we took the escalator up the floors in the ocean terminal mall to my final glance of Britannia as we walked away from the port it felt like I was a little part of royal history.

Its was definitely the highlight of our four day trip to Edinburgh. Great value and if we lived closer would be making use of the free annual pass upgrade. Worth every penny. Can’t recommend it enough you won’t be disappointed.

What a lovely review! We are thrilled to learn that you had such a wonderful experience aboard Britannia, exploring the five decks, and learning about the Yacht’s impressive history acquired over 44 years of Royal service. As you mention, Britannia has a new audio guide, available through a handset or on your mobile phone and narrated by award-winning Scottish actor Mark Bonnar (Shetland and Line of Duty). A visit to our Royal Deck Tea Room for our Moët Cream Tea Special is the perfect way to complete your tour and enjoy the beautiful views out across the Firth of Forth. Gayle and the rest of our dedicated staff will be delighted to read your kind words as they work hard to ensure that every visitor’s tour of Britannia is extra special. Went with my dad who has limited mobility. All of the staff without exception were super with him, very friendly and welcoming but also very patient. We were offered the use of a wheelchair whilst we toured the yacht and it was so easy to get round the yacht in a wheelchair - one of the best places to cater with disabled that I have been to
It was fascinating to see how the Queen used to travel as well as all the staff with her. And was different to just going round a stately home. The audio guide was also a great idea as meant my dad could listen to everything, whereas when its all written down, he struggles to read everything
There was also a fun "find the corgi" trail for children
The tea room is pricey, but then how often can you say you've had tea and scones where the Queen has also dined!
If you're in Edinburgh can only recommend you visit - especially on a February day!

We are pleased to learn that our cuddly corgi treasure hunt proved to be such a hit – we hope you managed to spot them all! An absolute highlight of our visit to Edinburgh was taking a bus to Leith to visit the Royal Yacht Britannia! What a stunning place to visit, the whole tour is perfect with excellent commentary. Allow at least 2-3 hours hours to get the most out of your visit as there is so much history to absorb and it would be a shame to rush through. The views are absolutely stunning from the decks. We would also recommend afternoon tea in the restaurant either during or once you have finished, service is friendly and welcoming whilst being professional. We would definitely visit again, as this is a wonderful place to visit. Highly recommended.

We pre-booked a ticket for myself and my wife (who works for the NHS) purchased a discounted ticket at the desk .
The tour starts by going through the museum and onto the top deck . You can get an audio handset or download it onto your phone.
It was fascinating and informative , seeing all aspects of life on board from the crew to the royal Family. We absolutely loved it

Also liked the Royal Tea rooms where we had Scones and Tea - delscious . We would thoroughly recommend if you are in Edinburgh , buses go to the ocean Terminal for the tour.

Very well organised and maintained tourist attraction. All staff were very friendly and helpful. Nice touch of humour with comical placement of toy corgis in most rooms (especially the sick bay). Included in admission price were handsets with very informative audio guide which was very good and top marks for having Welsh as an option. Very interesting and informative visit with plenty to see. We were lucky that it was quiet so could wander without crowds . Not suitable in bad weather as decks are obviously open . Spent couple of hours easily. Finished trip with lovely lunch of sandwiches and soup or sandwiches and scones. Very pleasant and enjoyable.

The yacht itself was beautiful, the rooms were lovely and stunning to see. Upon entry you have a walkthrough and see photos and printed information on the walls. At the end of this, you are advised that you will be given what looks like a phone to listen to the information provided in different languages and there are signs posted advising which number you need to press to listen to the relevant information.
About half way through the walk through of the yacht, there are signs for the Tea Rooms and there is a short wait depending on the time of day on your visit. The menu is not large but is very nice and I highly recommend the potato wedges. It isn't cheap as we had soup/sandwich, cake and a drink and it worked out about £35 for 2 people.

The downside of this was that I am hard of hearing and could not listen to the information provided on the 'telephones'. I asked if there were sign posted information inside the yacht or any other type of information available and was told no. It would have been helpful if I could have been given a leaflet to read about each area so that I could fully enjoy the visit as I felt I was missing out on information given to other tourists...

Thank you for visiting The Royal Yacht Britannia. We are pleased that you found Britannia stunning to see. As you kindly mention, our complimentary audio guided tour allows you to explore Britannia’s five decks at your own pace. The tour can be listened to on our audio handset which works with the T-loop system, or personal mobile phone, on both of which the volume can be controlled. The self-led tour allows you to learn about life on board, whilst taking in as much or as little of the tour as you wish. We do apologise that you were not offered another version as we do have a printed version of the script, as well as tablets available with the Britannia tour in British and American Sign Language. We will of course pass your feedback regarding the audio tour onto our Visitor Experience Manager, as we are always keen to make improvements where possible. We hope to welcome you back aboard to fully experience all five decks with your free Annual Pass. For the information of others, admission to Britannia is less than other top Edinburgh attractions and includes an Annual Pass, which allows each visitor to return free of charge, for up to a year. We really enjoyed this. To be honest, I wasn’t that bothered about going but it turned out to be one of my favourite things in Edinburgh. It is an easy bus ride from the city centre, with buses running very frequently back and forth. It was really interesting and you get to see lots of the rooms. The audio tour was great, one of the best audio tours that I’ve done. The tour is a set one way route, which means that you don’t miss anything. Would recommend a trip to the tea room as well. It’s really good and reasonably priced. We got to the tea room about midday and it was already busy. The queue shortly after that was quite long, I imagine in summer there would be quite a wait for a table so it could be wise to plan for before or after that peak lunch period. The souvenir shop is really overpriced, which is a shame really because it means people are less likely to buy. But that certainly doesn’t detract from the attraction itself.

If the weather is chilly (as it was in February) this is a really good way to fill 2 or 3 hours and stay relatively warm.

Well presented audio tour and some fascinating artifacts to see. The yacht is in great shape and it’s easy to get an impression of how it functioned.

Even better is the insight it provides into the lives of the royals whilst they were on board.

The tea room on the top deck is well worth a visit - a little pricey but great service and tasty too.

We are delighted to learn that you enjoyed your tour of Britannia, and that you found it to be such a good insight into life on board for the Royal Family and dedicated crew of Royal Yachtsmen. As you mention, we recommend allowing around 2 hours to complete the tour, however as it is self-guided you are free to enjoy the Royal Yacht at your own pace. A visit to our stunning Royal Deck Tea Room is certainly the perfect way to complete the tour! Many thanks for visiting and for leaving us a five-star review.
