We wanted to see more but didn't have the time, so just went in and looked around a bit. The halls had nice historic paintings and it was worth just peeking in for a few minutes. We've heard the tour is well worth the visit---so next time. The building itself is behind St Giles off High Street.

The Parliament Hall was recommended by an advocate friend from Glasgow. It is located just behind St. Giles Church and houses a small educational display of the Scottish Court system. The Hall itself is beautiful and with seeing.

We wanted to see what was going on and thought we would be able to see court in session. After going through security we were told we could not take photos. If I had known they had free tours, I would have gladly signed up for one. We wondered around a bit but there was not much to see.

Well worth a visit as its a beautiful building with guides that are knowledgeable. The cafe and gift shop was the most reasonable priced I have found.

This is the Old Parliament Building, now the Supreme Court. We did not go on the tour, but went into the pretty old chamber. It did not take long and is a beautiful space.

We had made reservations in advance for this tour. It is a free one! The tour was about an hour, guide very informative and it was really a good use of time. Very interesting. while they were not in session as it was just a day or so before elections, very interesting and informative. Would certainly recommend!!

We were much impressed by this gracious old building located in Parliament Square just off the Royal Mile. Having previously visited and been extremely disappointed by the new Scottish Parliament building, it was a pleasure to soak up the history and tradition associated with this particular building. Whilst it is understandable that Parliament House had been deemed as being too... More

Hidden in the corner of Parliament Square is the old parliament building now the Supreme Court. Wonderful hall and paintings of the people who made Scotland what it is today!

Parliament House is imposing rather than elegant, and I can't say I like its massive facade all that much. However, it blends well with its Old Town neighbors and is not an eyesore like its modern counterpart

We joined the tour and were not disappointed. The architecture is awesome n the guide was knowledgeable, humorous and engaging. We thoroughly enjoyed this rare glimpse into a Parliament House. Highly recommended. No fees levied.

Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
