PrincesvStreet Gardens are perfectly located. They are right in the middle of the city but are very quiet and peaceful. This makes it perfect for a rest. There are lots of benches to make sure that you can enjoy beautiful plants and watch cute squirrels.

Lots of stalls with a variety of goods for sale and not too expensive either. A great atmosphere and friendly banter.

If you're visiting the castle, walk up from Princes Street, you'll see the various paths from the gardens; some are uneven, all are steep, however worth the effort as you come out on the parade ground right in front of the Castle. Or... walk down this way. Not in the wet, though......

We have visited the Edinburgh Christmas Markets for many years but this year they have excelled. There are many more stalls than there have been in previous years. There are not one by 2 carousels and lots of other fairground attractions. When the daylight fades it really does come alive with the twinkling, coloured lights. Lots of food and drink stalls.... Got to say me and the wife think this is the best city in the UK for attractions. Cleanliness and trouble free. Steeped in history .When the local council added this German/European market .This is a great Christmassy feeling. Historical buildings and the stalls selling mulled wine and other gifts. This is a must for any family Family friendly kid... More

What a transformation of the Princes Gardens areas. The Xmas market area very busy but well worth the visit. Typical fun fare rides positioned at the Waverley station end and tgey are spectacular. Then there are rides for the wee ones on tge roog of Costa Coffee. So much to see and do. Of course, there are still the traditional... More

Went to the Christmas markets here yesterday - really good! It's exactly the same stalls that you find at the Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park, London but so much more laid back. Went to WW a few years ago and it was horrendously busy with safety stewards shouting at you telling you where you could and could not walk, which... More

Staying in Princes Street and Gardens

Neighbourhood Profile
Princes Street and Gardens
Glaswegians tease Edinburghers that their High Street is only half one, since buildings only line one side. But what they don’t say is how extraordinary the views are from Princes Street as a result. From here you look onto expansive and decorative public gardens beneath the mighty basalt cliffs on which Edinburgh’s Castle stands proud above the rest of the dramatic old town skyline. Yet many of those on Princes Street look the other way, as they’re concerned with chain store shopping or catching the tram or a train at main train station Waverley. But it’s not all utility here; the Scottish National Gallery rewards purposeless wandering, and December’s huge winter market in the gardens begins a season of revelry which ends with Hogmanay, Britain’s largest New Year’s street party.
