Once, the start of a new planned community, New Town, the street is now mostly a shopping mecca of chain stores. It's better to walk across the street in the park.

very touristy, but you'll find great stores for shopping here. We arrived in may to a heat wave in scotland and i had to buy summer clothes. was thankful for princes street! :-)
