I bar full of entertainment and full to the rafters. Good staff, good location but the price of drinks for the same round fluctuated by £4 each time ! I questioned this but didn't get an appropriate answer. However we enjoyed this bar and returned when it was quieter, to a consistent round price.

Much more local crowd on a night out type of pub than a lot of the more touristy establishments in Rose street, It appears to be the last(or first) pub, depending which way you attack Rose street. It was Halloween weekend when we were in the city, and the pub was full of people dressed up for the night, made... More

A traditional pub where everyone gathers to eat, drink and socialize. We were in Edinburgh for the New Year and stopped for lunch. We loved the fish and chips so much we had to go back for seconds before we left. The pub can get very crowded even with the downstairs seating.

I went to Edinburgh for a day out and we stopped off at Milnes bar for something to eat as it looked nice. We sat for a about 30 mins before we found out you had to order at the bar. I ordered macaroni cheese and it was stone cold so I told the waitress and she took it away... More

We were in Edinburgh for the Christmas market and looking for a quick lunch. Travelling with my wife, mother in law and two children. The food was very good, the service excellent and the prices reasonable. I would recommend for a bar lunch. The food was traditional pub fair, I had fish and chips and I have to say, the... More

I booked a table for 8 online on 03/12/2016 for 7pm and arrived with my work staff to be told I did not have a booking, I told the manager I had booked on line and he appeared to know nothing about it. He did get us a table after a wait if 30mins. We ordered starters and main course... More

At the bar we were asked for our table number so back through 3 rooms to find it. Finally we placed our order.....sorry the sharing dish we ordered is sold out!!!!!! This... More

Went in the afternoon for a cool lager which was served flat. When I informed the barman and asked to change it, he has simply poured it into a new glass. Well it didn't help too much as my £5 beer was still flat.... wouldn't recommend with so many pubs around. It is a shame as they have such a... More

Staying in New Town

Neighbourhood Profile
New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighbourhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.
