Dropped in for lunch as it's a nice traditional pub. Unfortunately sat in a bench type seat that creaks so loud everybody turns around to see where the noise is coming from. The waitresses was very pleasant and attentive. Unfortunately the food was very poor....More

We ate here after spending most of the day walking around and soaking in the sights of Edinburgh. I really enjoyed the steak pie even though it was a lot heavier than the food I'm used to! Never mind, I ate the lot.

Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its
labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests
this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly
visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers
that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the
place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as
the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal
Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the

Are dogs allowed to sit outside so long as they are well behaved and quiet and on a leash? We got two totally conflicting attitudes from staff - one was extremely rude after seeing our dog and not saying a word when we bought our first drink and then as we bought our second (and what was going to be our final drink anyway), he very abruptly and rudely snapped that once we'd finished our drinks we had to leave as "dogs aren't welcome here - not even outside!" .......... yet as we were almost finished, a lovely man who was also staff arrived to start his shift and asked if he could stroke Ella and he made a massive fuss over her and got licked by her (this is the "fiercest" she is!) and he asked us if we'd like a bowl of fresh water for her, to which we explained we'd been told to leave as we had a dog and apparently dogs aren't allowed and he looked totally shocked and told us that well-behaved dogs were often outside in the seating area.
